Loud Media aquires WGAP/WKVL

This is an issue on Fun 105.9 as well. When I flipped it on yesterday, I heard an early ‘70s song, followed by a ‘60s song, followed by another early ‘70s song.
Yes. I definitely have noticed that on both stations as well. For 104.9, I feel like this will change as they implement more music into the playlist. Obviously their is a lot more hip-hop from Jump inside the playlist and rock carried over from VLZ and that could explain so many slots in a row. Once every category is filled, i'd assume the rotation will be much better. Not understanding the logic of that on 105.9 though, since they have so much from Lake FM. I've noticed that Loud's stations always improve over time. Jump was the only really polished out launch due to them already running it in other markets. I believe both stations have a bright future even with limited signals in certain areas.

I’m still surprised they didn’t use 105.9 to simulcast VLZ to the other side of the market. (adjacent frequency & it covers areas where they’re weak). Also a few months back when Loud’s stations were listed in the ratings, VLZ was actually pulling a 1.9 12+, which is better than I’d figured for that signal. So there’s obviously an audience interested in the format.
It's me. I'm the audience interested in the format.

Noticed the 100.9 translator has made the move to 92.5. Still running Random Music Radio. Actually seems to have slightly better signal here in west Knox than 100.9 had.
Still picking it up marginally all the way down into Loudon Co now. This 92.5 translator has better coverage than the 105.9 one.

Very strong in Maryville. Hopefully a format will be decided soon. I was in Sevier County earlier and didn't even do a scan to catch this. How is it doing in downtown Knox/ South Knox? I'm worried about 92.3 being an issue.

Interesting. KVL and VLZ are dead air this morning. KVL's online stream is up. VLZ's is not.

Either the microwave or IP based STL crapped the bed. Alot of stations are using IP based STL's these days and sometimes the appliance at the TX or RX end drops off after an internet outage and doesnt reconnect

It seems to happen often over there.

That sounds like IP delivery then, using either a somewhat shaky connection and/or a barix box. barix boxes arent too forgiving of cruddy connections

I’ve been working in Maryville this week and finally got a chance to listen to Fun 105.9. It sounds better than what I heard the first weekend. The music mix and the jingles are nice. I think it sounds much better than Lake FM did. The problem however is that signal. Even in Maryville, I had trouble receiving it outdoors on my portable radio without some static. I actually preferred flipping over to AM and listening to it on 1400.

92.5’s signal is stronger there than both 105.9 and 105.1. And of course 104.9 is stronger than all the above, but it’s not perfect. By the way, the new signal maps for those signals are up on RadioLand. You can really see how 92.5 can coexist with 92.3. 92.5’s signal is shaped like a V. It covers Maryville and Sevierville and little else.

And speaking of STLs, 105.1, 105.9, and 850 all had silent open carriers today, while their counterparts 1180, 1400, and 92.5 were running their respective formats normally.

I noticed that outage as well. I was thinking about the 92.5 signal. It's so much more solid. It doesn't have interference down in Southern Blount like 105.9 does with Rad Radio out of Madisonville. Would it be logical to move Fun to 92.5 instead?

Looks like WKCE has moved to 92.5. 105.1 is running a "reset your preset loop". 105.1 is also now being fed by 850am.

Given 92.5’s restrictive signal, I guess that makes sense (to the extent that WKCE’s format makes any sense at all). I’m surprised that there is no mention of this change on their website or social media.

So I guess the only piece of the puzzle left is what will appear on 850/105.1 (soon to be 93.7 I guess) with those mysterious WSMM call letters.

I'm just awaiting Random Music Radio to pop up somewhere again 😂

With the WSMM call letters, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s “Smoky Mountain” something or other. Maybe another classic country or some kind of tourist based info format?
Or could be “Smooth” & maybe soft AC? Or even smooth jazz, with Loud, who knows?
