Post your latest DX

Looks like that "Cannibal CME" will be coming during the midday hours tomorrow, 12/1. Be listening for rare southern DX, perhaps South America for the east coasters and deep Mexico/CA/AZ for us...

The best daytime DX (not pre-sunset or post sunrise) I ever got was 1035 AM 4VEH from Cap Haitien, Haiti around noon with about 90% or better readability. The signal was very weak and noisy, and only usable because it was on a totally unused channel in all the Western Hemisphere.

The only stations that might be heard today now that "split frequencies" are gone would be cases where you are far from any other station or able to null stations to the east and west of you to get a clean southern path. For that, a beverage antenna would be best, but a good tunable look might work.

This subject should be a separate thread to get people listening. Crainbebo, would you like to start it with the background info you have?

I really really wish people would stop championing and cheering on these big CMEs.. one day its gonna hit hard and do some damage to communications.. plus it totally wipes out AM and HF up here in alaska, rendering it utterly useless and noisy mush

Heard KDSO "The Ace Sports Radio" 1300 Phoenix/Medford, OR with WEstwood one football on and off pretty well since 630pm AK, finally got an ID and spot at 7pm.... sloppy automation too.

If you are a DXer, a CME is an interesting opportunity to find "new catches". For those of us who find it fun to get new stations, there is nothing wrong with advising others of the events so they can check out the bands that are affected.

I am a dxer. CMEs completely ruin AM and HF here, making the bands useless

That hard hit will come whether people want to see auroras and get DX associated with them or not. You’re obviously too far north to gain DX advantage from them.

No one is cheering on damaging CME's, but there's no reason to not get excited about new DXing opportunities. Keep in mind in much of the US there are so many AM stations within a few hundred miles that DXing often consists of wading through several signals trying to get an ID... it's much harder to get new distant stations in Chicago where I am than in Alaska.

The CMEs are the only opportunity to hear rare Mexican signals (would I ever pick up XEL-1260 Mexico City all alone if not for the one in February?), rare Arizona and rare southern CA signals that are usually blotted out by the NW and Alberta pests. But I understand that the further north you go, the worse the DX gets. New thread could be posted tonight if the AM band is 'dead'. But there have been reports of aurora seen this early AM as far as the southern California deserts!!

saying the band is dead here during a CME is an understatement

A couple days ago I received Gulfport station 105.9 The Monkey (WXYK) from Zachary LA in my car. Bay St Louis station Kicker 108 (WZKX) also usually interferes with HOT 107.9 (KHXT)’s signal in the morning. Also I heard blues on 92.5 from Zachary late one night. I have no idea what the station was.
KHXT was static in Zachary this morning. Idk what happened but they’re back on.

NEW Aurora log!

1250 - KZER CA, Santa Barbara; Lazer ID sweeper and Regional Mexican music all alone 1802 PT 12/1/23. NEW #834, 1KW at 834 miles. No sign of KKDZ or KWSU.

EDIT: Add another one just now

1370 - XEHG BCN, Mexicali; wow! only 500 watts, all alone with soft Mexican music, mentions of 'musica', 'corazon' (love, of course), and // stream on onlineradiobox.com, Vida IDs. NEW #835, 500 watts at 1001 miles. I have picked up KROP Brawley several times on 500 watts at 1300khz, so I'm not surprised.

An Ontario DXer is reporting auroral hash all the way to WX band, a total mess. Check out the DXMaps. There is auroral DX noted on 6 m. as far south as Philadelphia.

1050 XED Mexicali like a ton of bricks. S9+ La Poderosa, "XED, Mexicali, Baja California". Recorded an ID from XEHG, fading up very well for just 500 watts.

Mexicali opening continues...it's another new log!

940 - XEMMM BCN, Mexicali; with 'Tubthumping' Chumbawamba, W Radio references, what sounded like a breakdown of the top 5 trending stories ("uno: (story), dos: (story)), etc., and now with Billy Joel 'Uptown Girl', 1840-48 PT 12/1/23. This station, which used to be oldies, flipped recently to the W Radio format // XEW-AM. NEW #836, 1KW at 1,001 miles.

This aurora is so strong...even Fresno is gone in the noise. Can you believe that?

This aurora has gone wild. In all my years of DXing I have NEVER, EVER heard Au this strong before. It's a total wipe out the past hour. I'm lucky to pull in wisps of something on 1400 and 1450. KNX, XEPRS, KSDO, KFBK, KNZR, and occasionally XEHG-1370/KLTX-1390 are popping in and out...KNX is strongest and stable. But otherwise it's DEAD. Totally dead. Swaths of channels are just static and interference.

A different story on the KA7U SDR in Weiser ID. KTOX-1340 Needles CA is pegging the S-meter. It's S9+, at 662 miles. And so is KOFA-1320 Yuma, all of 106 watts, at 806 miles. KROP-1300 Brawley also in with TOH ID, mentioning KGBA, into Adventures in Odyssey. 1300 is dead here as are many, many other channels. XEX-730 strong, KUZZ-550, lots more. But Weiser is 280 miles SE of me.

Now it gets stranger. 960 and 1010 Calgary, plus 1140 CHRB High River, have joined the party. But the rest of the band is dead, except for big 50KW Los Angeles, very weak KCBS and KTRB SF, KFBK, KNZR... Had a 1340 with the Oregon-Washington Pac 12 game about 20 min. ago, might just be KJOX however.

Found KSGO-1450 (ex-KZNU) St. George UT on the KA7U receiver. This might have been the one I heard in Yakima at 1800 PT w/ USA News.
