WBZO no more?

The call letters being so close to Bozo (clown) would lend itself to comedy. I wished that format would have done better nationally. I can only guess there isn't enough "clean" comic material available to avoid too many repeats.
Good comedy (whether clean or blue) depends on the element of surprise. The comedian says something that you weren't expecting, a choice of words, a turn of phrase, or draws a mental image that's out of left field. You the listener can hear that joke or punch line for the first time and laugh out loud. You'd probably still chuckle on a second hearing. But four or five or ten times? There's nowhere near enough new material for a comedy format, let alone broadcast-clean material. That's really why comedy formats don't work.

I agree. Some stations tried it in the 90s. There even was the American Comedy Network built around comedy syndication. It didn't last long. If you think there's too much repetition in music formats, imagine if you heard the same jokes over & over.
