No Sale Looming, ESPN 98.7 expected to pivot to Music

I was not trying to start religious flame war with my original comment. But it has always struck me odd that VCY seems to attract so many disparaging remarks compared to other groups that have much of the same programming, some of those groups are even substantially larger in terms of audience or number of stations.

I think VCY is bigger than you realize. They hold ~75 FCC licenses. That's nothing compared to EMF, but it is pretty large in terms of radio ministries.
It is bigger than the Bible Broadcasting Network (based in Charlotte), bigger than Moody Radio (based in Chicago), but smaller than Radio Training Network (southeast US) and smaller than Relevant Radio by license count.

I don't think very many people on here listen to religious radio at all. It's pretty much only a topic of conversation when a religious broadcaster buys a formerly commercial signal, or is rumored to do so.

Will it be a music format?

Respectfully, if he was going to tell us, he would. You’ve been spending the majority of time on this thread asking, begging and pleading for information that others won’t give or can’t give, or don’t know. And I understand, there is a passion and love for radio in your city

Just remember that. Patience.

We can safely say whatever it is, it likely won’t be for long, nor will it LIKELY be anything unique, exciting and/or local considering Emmis place in radio in 2024.

On another hand, maybe David was right about closing down the thread…

I don't want this thread to be shut down and this is not the right thread or venue for a theological discussion, but respectfully, I do not believe those passages are applicable in the way you seem to be using them regarding VCY making truth claims or taking any moral positions.

If you go back into the context of the post I replied to, you will note that it was not VCY itself that was the target. It was those "Christian" factions who wave the Bible at anyone who dares to conflict with their vision of what "Jesus wanted it to be".

Getting $100,000 a month is better than $0, especially if your tower rent is at the ESB.

Yes, it would be a good thing for Emmis. But consider that it would be Good Karma that would have to make the offer, and as they are exiting the LMA I don't see that happening.

Actually in the scheme of things news WCBS moving to FM totally is not a bad idea.
Except it defeats the whole purpose of why Audacy wants to eliminate it...

Audacy will save millions in staff salaries in not having two unionized newsrooms and is expecting a revenue/audience bump for WINS by eliminating 880. Now you want to take away the revenue from WCBS-FM too?

So can we extrapolate from that there is no deal yet for the sale of the station?
What you can reasonably extrapolate is that there's been no announced LMA, or sale agreement with a temporary LMA (pending FCC approval of the transfer) which will start on or after August 26th. Note the highlighted word. It's possible one or the other is in place but hasn't yet been announced. Lacking any of those, Emmis has dead air to fill to modulate their carrier. The alternative is turning off the carrier and saving the cost of electricity, but the other costs (such as ESB rent) are not cheap, and would still need to be paid.

This could be a deal where there is no info until it is filed. Somethings secrecy is part of the deal. I am sure Emmis has a plan. It might not be their first plan.

Not sure why people are having such a tough time getting their arms around this.
Because it seems like there's a lot of wishful thinking. "Paging Dr. Rohrshach on Line 2".

There's going to be a presidential election in a few months. The media are into full-on horse-race coverage. Polls are being conducted, and reported on. But the only poll that matters is more than a couple of months in the future. The media are roundly criticized for their emphasis on "who's ahead" and "what's going to happen" and "can I get an exclusive interview" rather than on more substantive matters. That criticism hasn't stopped them yet. Same principle here.

So put some Serbian folk music on the turntable, get out the popcorn, and watch the show.
