What if Star 94 went with the classic hits format of WCBS-FM New York? Would it siphon off enough of The River's audience to make a difference? Pop oldies vs. classic hits/rock ...
I know The River likes to call itself "Classic Hits." But it's not. It's a Classic Rock. Not hard edged but still Classic Rock. No Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston, no Huey Lewis or Bee Gees.
Here's what was played in the last 90 minutes. It seems they are doing a "Block Party Weekend" or something like that, with several songs by the same artist...
Doobie Brothers....Black Water
Doobie Brothers....Listen to The Music
Doobie Brothers....Jesus Is Just All Right
Def Leppard....Rock of Ages
Def Leppard....Pour Some Sugar on Me
Black Crows....Remedy
Black Crows....Hard to Handle
Black Crows....She Talks to Angels
Foreigner....Juke Box Hero
Foreigner....Head Games
Billy Idol....Dancing with Myself
Billy Idol....Eyes Without A Face
Billy Idol....Rebel Yell
.38 Special....Hold on Loosely
.38 Special....So Caught Up in You
Another station could easily come in and play a real Classic Hits format. Or as suggested above, a Jack-FM format. Classic Hits, Classic Rock and Adult Hits share some titles but they are all distinct formats. In many markets, they all co-exist.
