September Ratings

WSB stays on top, benefiting from the news cycle. I do also wonder if they have benefited from going pretty much all local all the time, pushing Hannity out of the prime line up.

The Beat hasn't gained traction to take on V103 yet.

The 105.3 - 96.1 swap was a waste IMHO.

Urban in Atlanta might be the most competitive here verses anywhere else in the USA. Someone back in the Plough days got it right with V103.

What if Star 94 went with the classic hits format of WCBS-FM New York? Would it siphon off enough of The River's audience to make a difference? Pop oldies vs. classic hits/rock ...
OR an Adult Hits format like BIG 103 in Boston. And my God go ALL-CHRISTMAS during the Holidays. LOL!

I thought it was stupid back then ratings wise especially in November and December. It would be certain death in PPM. A P1 is with a meter go shopping after supper. He gets in this car and finds another station to listen to. Next morning he / she might not switch the car radio back to 94.1 for a song or two. There goes a quarter hour at least.

Could Cumulus put all-Christmas on 98.9 now that 99X is at 100.5?

Agree. It overlaps the existing main signal. I thought this would have happened a long time ago. Unless they simply want another parking spot for 99X so you can get it at three different places on the dial.

My theory is they keep it around as an alternate FM option for when WSSL interferes with WNNX in parts of the market.

Ideally, 98.9's TX site should be relocated farther east or northeast.

I know The River likes to call itself "Classic Hits." But it's not. It's a Classic Rock. Not hard edged but still Classic Rock. No Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston, no Huey Lewis or Bee Gees.

Here's what was played in the last 90 minutes. It seems they are doing a "Block Party Weekend" or something like that, with several songs by the same artist...

Doobie Brothers....Black Water
Doobie Brothers....Listen to The Music
Doobie Brothers....Jesus Is Just All Right
Def Leppard....Rock of Ages
Def Leppard....Pour Some Sugar on Me
Black Crows....Remedy
Black Crows....Hard to Handle
Black Crows....She Talks to Angels
Foreigner....Juke Box Hero
Foreigner....Head Games
Billy Idol....Dancing with Myself
Billy Idol....Eyes Without A Face
Billy Idol....Rebel Yell
.38 Special....Hold on Loosely
.38 Special....So Caught Up in You

Another station could easily come in and play a real Classic Hits format. Or as suggested above, a Jack-FM format. Classic Hits, Classic Rock and Adult Hits share some titles but they are all distinct formats. In many markets, they all co-exist.

The River started out as Classic Hits and evolved to Classic Rock. Now they use both terms on the air., i.e. "97-1 The River, Atlanta's Classic Hits" and "the South's largest library of Classic Rock."

And they started out as Classic Hits before Classic Hits started to mean former Oldies stations.

The 102.1 translator (Fox FM) is a bit lighter than The River though its music has become closer to The River's in recent months.
