As the hackneyed saying goes, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” KFNC currently looks like Pittsburgh in the 1930s. Lots of indications that a change is on the way, though I still don’t expect anything to happen before the end of the year.
Not trying to be argumentative with you, 🐸, but what smoke? A listing for an FM available in Houston isn't smoke. Everything is for sale in Houston, clear up to iHeart's and Uforia's clusters. It can all be purchased for the right price, up and down the dial. Want to own KRBE? You can, of course, but who wants to surrender two appendages for it?
Power 97.5 KRWP was 2002-05. That call recently became available again after being relinquished by a station in Pampa, Texas.
I saw that, too. Interesting coincidence, I suppose, but it's a set of calls that Cumulus didn't actually want in '02. They had to settle, which is why KKTT exists in the 97.5 history timeline.

With all the speculation that the “new” Republican FCC will relax or eliminate ownership caps, might Gow hold off on any sale of KFNC until those new rules are in place, and acquisition activity heats up?

A new, more “hands off” FCC might also finally get the stalled sales of K223DH (14 months) and K223CW (8 months) moving along. Both are supposedly part of a future Gow sale of 97.5.

If the Power 105.3 management wants to make a deal for KFNC they might want to do it soon.

I think K287BQ is perfectly happy originating programming like it’s been doing for years on that amazing “99 watt” signal

Your statement is baseless, and remarks of this nature mislead others into accepting them as truth. K287BQ does not originate programming; KGBC AM serves as the primary signal. KFNC talks has nothing to do with Power 105.3fm or the format actually moving.

Scanning the dial this morning, the audio levels on 92.5 are super low, like 20db down or more.
Just checked, and the 92.5 audio is extremely low.

On “parent” KBXX HD-2 the audio is okay (perhaps slightly low) but is also running around 40 seconds behind 92.5. So the translator is being fed directly and not by the HD-2. Some commercials on 92.5 are different from those airing on 97.5 at the same time, so the translator is not rebroadcasting 97.5.

I rarely listen to ESPN radio, but I noticed today that they didn’t mention 92.5.

They only mentioned 97.5 and 97.5 HD2

It wasn’t live, it was like an TOH ID,

KFNC HD2
The KFNC recorded TOHID has been incorrect since the KBXX HD-2 was launched. It usually says “KFNC 97-9 HD-2 Mont Belvieu-Houston”. Is this what you heard?

A correct TOHID would be “KFNC Mont Belvieu-Houston, KBXX HD-2 Houston” or perhaps “KFNC 97-5 Mont Belvieu-Houston, KBXX 97-9 HD-2 Houston.”

That’s not the only example of incorrect TOHIDs on a Houston sports station. On SportsRadio 610 there are some hours where the program hosts live read the ID, and consistently say “KILT and KILT HD-2 an Audacy station” (leaving out the -FM suffix as well as the COL) while their recorded TOHIDs correctly say “KILT, KILT-FM HD-2 Houston, an Audacy Sports station.” This has been going on for several years, and nobody at the station has caught it.

Update to my own post: Was listening to SportsRadio 610 around 10am this morning, and Sean Pendergast gave a live read of the TOHID and for the first time ever included the “-FM” suffix as well as the COL and “an Audacy Sports Station”. He even strongly emphasized those elements. Did someone at Audacy read my post?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thread bump: The sale of K223CW 92.5 to Gow Media has been cancelled. Application withdrawal here:

So where do they go from here?

I'm surprised you aren't speculating that this is an indication of a pending sale of 97.5!

Maybe buyer wants the Class C and not the "directional 28 watt" translator.

Who, ME???🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣

As far as a sale, who knows. Been almost two years since KFNC was supposedly put on the market.

However there is an interesting development: K223CW has been playing Christmas music all afternoon. Sports still going on KFNC. Has the 97.5/92.5 simulcast been broken and the Gow lease for the translator terminated? Not currently near an HD radio to see what’s going on with 97.9 HD-2, the parent signal for 92.5.

97.9 HD2 is still ESPN radio. But heard from someone that it will be flipping soon. Well not specifically 97.9 HD2, HD3 could be added. But yes there’s a change coming. And also a change coming to 102.1 HD2 or HD3.

Perhaps parent signals for 99.5 and 104.5 are coming to new HD-3 channels on 97.9 and 102.1?🤔

Edit to add: The KFNC website still includes both frequencies. Also checking the podcast version of the KFNC afternoon show the hosts were still giving both frequencies in the 5pm hour. Perhaps the rug was pulled on 92.5 without KFNC knowing?
