New York December Ratings

OUCH, WFAN, thanks it part to the crappy Giants & Jets falls from a 3.6 in November to a 2.7 in December as we approach a new year & transition in NY-sports radio with Michael Kay off of PM drive at their main competitor ESPN NY (WHSQ). Also, have to wonder to wonder if having the Jets is hurting Q104.3 (WAXQ) with the drop in ratings from a 6.1 in Sept/Oct to a 5.5 in December.

WNEW 102.7 FM rose from 4.2 in November to 4.9, good for a tie with Z-100 for 5th place. This may be their highest overall rating ever.
My guess is that a good part of the rise in the past month is due to the fact that they don't play any Christmas music. That made them a haven for people that are not into the holiday tunes played on Lite, and other music stations.
I heard them running a spot inviting listeners that want to listen to Christmas music to tune into Audacy's online holiday music channels.

With Christmas music dropping in most markets, year on year, is it time to start pulling it back?
Note that the "December" PPM survey period is in reality, November 8- December 4, so it only reflects about 10 days of holiday music in many cases- especially since Thanksgiving fell later this year and stations like Lite FM that switch right before Thanksgiving might've done so a few days later in 2024.

You'll get a better read when the "Holiday" book is released next month. It'll cover the rest of Dec through the first week of Jan 2025

NJ 101.5, which isn’t even receivable in much of the Metro area, is close to tying The Block in the overall ratings.

Is The Block receivable in much of the Metro area? I was under the impression they had some coverage issues because they transmit from Jersey also and not Empire State building.

Was wondering about the Holiday numbers as well. Several major markets I saw showed nice jumps for the A/C stations and proportionate speedbumps for the mainstream music stations And a few others I always look at -- alma maters and nearbys -- Hartford, Allentown, 'Middlesex NY' -- all looked somewhat lukewarm.
But those misleadingly nice but meh numbers -- just 10 days you say? -- now look pretty good for the Holiday lot. Nice warmup act.
Thanx, EarsTunedNYC.

(One good thing (imo) is that when we finally *do* get to see those actual numbers it means that there'll be no Burl Ives, Elmo & Patsy, Singing Mutts et al clicking off millions of radios for four full actual seasons)

In the meantime : Many happy returns!

"Dropping" is a relative term. First, these were the pre-Holiday ratings. Let's see what happens in the next ratings. Second, the stations that flipped to Christmas music were still double or more higher than they were the previous month, even if they weren't quite what they were in 2023.

If Aaron Judge hits 58 home runs this year and last year he hit 61, did he have a bad year?

Only by the theory that all trees must grow to the sky.

Remember, WFAN spent its first two decades as about the #15 rated station in 12+. But in the same time period, it was pretty consistently the #1 station in revenue.

And, unless it is part of a trend over many months, a 6.1 and a 5.5 are both within the margin of error. If you look at major stations over a 12 month or more period, you will find that many have peaks and nulls that are even more than a full share point apart.
