Pasadena resident checking in.I don't know about Palisades, but I do know they had an effective buffer in place in the Eaton fire that had worked in 1993 and several other fires since. Altadena was not in the fire zone. That was a total freak thing. These houses that were destroyed had been there for 70 years or more. Lake Avenue was miles away from a fire zone.
But the majority of the homes that burned up there did so during the day on Wednesday when the winds had calmed. The fire department should have been able to mount a better defense - even if they couldn't save all the homes, I am unable to comprehend that they couldn't save some.
That would be KVTA 1590 AMLive on KCAL-9 right now: the building at the bottom of an AM transmitter tower is on fire. Don't know which station it is. The fire is being described as a brush fire in the Santa Clara river bottom in Ventura.
That's a rather devastating loss for the classical music world.Among the things destroyed by the Palisades fires: The works of 20th century classical music composer Arnold Schoenberg:

Publisher of Arnold Schoenberg's music destroyed by L.A. fires
Belmont Music, the publisher and repository for the works of 20th century musical titan Arnold Schoenberg for six decades, has been destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fire currently burning in Los Angeles. In a statement, Schoenberg’s son Larry said, “The fire that ravaged the Pacific Palisades...classic107.com

That's not accurate. The one Altadena home I know about burned between 4 and 5AM Wednesday morning. Most of their neighborhood was gone before the sun came up.
That's not accurate.
The evacuation order was not expanded west of Lake Ave until something like 4:30AM on Wednesday. The homes lost to the fire west of Lake which is a shockingly large number considering the distance from Eaton Canyon and the initial damage we saw Tuesday evening, burned after that evac order was issued - Wednesday during the day.
Universal Music Group has canceled all of its Grammy-related events, including the Saturday artist showcase and the Sunday after-Grammy party, and will use the money instead for Los Angeles wildfire relief.
“Today we have cancelled all of our Grammy-related events, including the Artist Showcase and After-Grammy Party and will redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires,” a statement from the company reads. “Our deepest gratitude goes to the first responders and emergency personnel, who continue to perform heroically.
“L.A. is home to so many of us,” it continues. “We are committed to helping and supporting the music community, our artists, our teams and the people of Los Angeles get through this horrific episode.”

I wouldn't be surprised if it was NOAA's National Weather Service transmitter shack. Has anybody noticed that 162.55 MHz (KWO37) has been off the air? For something that's considered critical infrastructure (part of the area's EAS network), it's a little late in the game for its continuing absence to be down to a continuing power outage. The only destruction was a small shack with some two way radio gear. Everything else up there is fine.Anyone have the lowdown on what was damaged on Mt Wilson? On one of the live cam feeds you could see a building on fire... but not sure if it was a building that was actually being used.View attachment 8419
