AP banned from White House

And here's more Associated Press is also being banned from Air Force One. When a major news organization is being banned then it comes into question how the public gets reliable information from the executive branch specifically.

After repeatedly stopping reporters from The Associated Press from being in the same room as President Donald Trump, the White House on Friday doubled down, appearing to bar the organization’s journalists from traveling on Air Force One as well.

The feud, which the White House Correspondents’ Association has called a violation of the First Amendment and Trump’s own executive order on free speech, began Tuesday and stems from AP’s recent decision to ignore the president’s Day 1 order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.”

In a post on X, Trump deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich said that ignoring the “lawful” renaming is “divisive” and “exposes the Associated Press’ commitment to misinformation.”

If the other News organizations had a back bone they would stop coverage of the President for showing total disrespect for the Constitution. They are too dumb to realize they are next. The regular news folks could simply not show pictures or film clips of Trump. Trump's ego would that a serious hit if no one saw or heard him on the evening news.

Narcissistic people believe they are never wrong. I seriously question if he isn't ready for the 25th amendment. The idea of turning Gaza into a resort might be stupider than annaxing Canada.

If the GOP doesn't stop this guy he will guarantee there will never be a Republican elected to a national office again. 39 million folks being forced into our expensive health care system will never excuse the Republicans. I doubt the average Canadian will like our gun laws too. So Trump will be adding another "California" to the electorial college.

On second thought it might be a good thing for Democrats. Never mind.

Also the AP will argue 1st Amendment grounds to cover the Trump Administration. We seen the FCC "investigate" other media outlets like PBS, NPR, Audacy, NBC, and CBS for stuff but it ends with the argument of political interference in those cases.

However the FCC has no jurisdiction with the Associated Press. In this case it's outright the White House going after members of the press in this case. This stuff reminds me of when former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte did yank the license of a TV and radio network due to political beefs he had with the press in that country.

I expect that geography teachers in the US will be next for punishment. Maps will have to be destroyed. Why not change the name United States to Trumpland? He has to the power to do it right now.

I get it that this site doesn't want political discussion. When the free press is being stifled by a President, the operators of this website may want to take notice. History is filled with examples of other regimes that shut down anyone who dissents...

Wow. That suggests our government could shut down this website or only allow certain opinions to be posted. But that could never happen. Or could it?

Other than the Associated Press, isn't Reuters the next best thing? Have they been adversely affected by 'the Trump effect'?

Yes Reuters is the next best thing. However they have to deal with Elon Musk. Every time Elon Musk talks about defunding NPR, PBS, public media affiliates and CPB. I always wonder when Trump and Musk will start calling for Reuters to be banned from the White House in the same way the Associated Press had just faced. This is given that Reuters did an extensive investigative story on Elon Musk and how Toxic he is at all of his companies and the local NPR and PBS affiliates either investigated him directly or reposted Reuters articles on Musk. It is a warning sign to me that Reuters is the next target in all of this every time I hear the Defund PBS, NPR, Public Media affiliates and CPB.

Musk accused Reuters of "social deception."

“Reuters was paid millions of dollars by the US government for ‘large scale social deception,’” Musk proclaimed in an X post that has racked up more than 76,000 shares and 35 million views. “They’re a total scam. Just wow.”

But there was more to the story than what he posted:

The contract was real, but the Orwellian phrase Musk seized on to suggest a shadowy conspiracy wasn’t what it seems. A slightly closer look would have revealed that the contract, signed during President Donald Trump’s first term, was for help defending against cyberattacks — that is, combating deception, not fueling it. And it went to a separate division of the company, not the news agency.

What set off Musk's attack on Reuters? This story:

I've long thought that if the media had backbone at all, they'd have pulled out of the White House long ago. To be "fair and balanced," remember those sham news conferences and "briefings" under the Biden administration. Staffers would wander around to sniff out who was going to ask what, then prepare answers and a list of whom Joe should call on. What a sham! Woodward and Bernstein didn't need to hang out in the White House press room and attend briefings. No real reporter would, nor would real reporters tolerate the kinds of "herding" to which the White House subjects them.

This but one way in which the Westminster system is better than the mess we have. Check out "question time" in the House of Commons in Canada or the UK and see what I mean.

You're focusing on the wrong side of this. AP has reporters in lots of places, not just the white house. Everyone knows they're getting propaganda at press conferences. That's what press conferences are, regardless of where they are.

The problem here is that the white house is weaponizing access. They're saying to someone: You must report our propaganda our way or we shut down your access. At the same time, they're engaging in a social media campaign to attack AP credibility.

It's chilling what's happening, but hardly surprising. Speaking Truth to Power won't work with the current administration. Look what just happened with the Eric Adams case. Everything is transactional for Trump.

The attacks on the credibility of mainstream media have been going on for quite awhile. Unfortunately, there are millions of people who no longer want facts. They want only what they want...

I wouldn't be surprised if every recent administration had a longing for the good old days when reporters hid from the public the fact that FDR was crippled and kept mum about all of Jack Kennedy's mistresses.

Some of the reporting on Reagan really didn't come out until after he left office. Many could see his mental decline in his last two years, but no one reported it. Lou Cannon was the Post white house reporter during the Reagan years, and his books covered a lot of those stories. Ultimately, the Reagan family announced an Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Some of the best reporting inside the Trump white house was done by Bob Woodward, who as you note, doesn't actually cover the white house.

We don't even have to go far back as World War II to see what happens when politicians attack the press. We just have to look at the past decade when press freedom is under attack in places like Philippines because that country's former President attack the press because they didn't go along with their propaganda and the country's journalists exposed Former President Duterte for the Human rights violation allegations and their country's current Vice President who happens to be Rodrigo Duterte's Daughter Sara Duterte for corruption, death threats and misuse of the country's funds which was approved by the country's congress. It resulted in that country to impeach their vice president and opening up another investigation on their former president. Also it resulted in a major TV network to have their network license yanked and the editor of a competing news outlet in the country to get detained all because they investigated the country's president and allies.

I just deleted nearly a dozen posts that had nothing, zero, zilch to do with radio, TV or any kind of electronic media.

Please, it it does not at least marginally have to do with broadcasting, refrain from posting it.

What happens when the free media gets disbanded. What will we talk about. It’s going to be hard not to bring politics into it when it’s literally destroying the medium.

You are speculating with no basis in fact.

For the moment, this site does not allow posts that do not in some way involve broadcasting.
