KJLH is 60 years old!!!

Let’s discuss 102.3 KJLH for bit peeps. This station has been a fixture in the LA black community for years and I’ve rocked with station since I was a kid. It outlived KACE and The Beat and is still going strong. The station has never been a ratings winner because the signal is limited to Central LA but it still stayed relevant and gave us a voice in the community. It even stopped the music when the LA riots were going back in 1992 as a resource for South Central LA.

How come no one mentions KACE? Which was Urban Contemporary, and was known for doing mix shows at night with DJ Elvin in the late 80's.
I remember them having a show at night called "The Quiet Storm" around 1989. (Then my family moved to the IE and I couldn't hear KACE anymore due to the 103.9 there.)

I heard about KACE from back in the day. In the early 90’s they played hip hop but caught some heat because of the bad language, drug references, etc. In 1994, it became an urban oldies station.

And in 2000 it became part of the KRCD KRCV Recuerdo simulcast.
