Homeland Security Ads on KNX

It was the same english spot heard on all the other stations. So they are running it in many places, a real ad campaign not just "red meat for the base". Looks like it's effective too, seeing all the people self deporting. Arguably more effective than ICE. I'm sure some of them are good folks who will become real American Citizens in the future, which is what we need.

The fact that an English ad against "illegal migrants" in the U.S., while it shows kutzpah by the Administration (there is certainly a lot of gall there), does not signify that the administration is any better at targeting Spanish-only speakers than when that ad was being run only on English outlets. I'm reminded of a talk show I heard on a local Spanish outlet (it was the 860 kHz frequency in Phoenix which by the mid-1980s when I heard this had the callsign KVVA if I remember correctly). The talk show featured the head of the state's immigration department who only spoke English and callers who only spoke Spanish with the Hispanic talk show hosts acting as translators. To me, it showed how really out of touch the state's English government was with the Hispanic population, regardless of the immigration status of members of that population.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear and see recruiting ads for ICE agents on these same stations.

A wee bit Pollyannish.

It also helps that we're paying them $1000 to leave. (Sorry, hungry American kid, we can't give you a free school lunch, because we have to pay people to leave the country...)
The cost of apprehension, holding and deportation is several orders of magnitude higher than giving a voluntary illegal immigrant $1000 and a ticket to got back home. In fact, that idea is rather brilliant, as it avoids the stigmas of arrest for the person who should not be here and rewards them for ceasing to be "illegal".

We have to remember that the primary beneficiaries of illegal immigration are the drug cartels. They are paid to get illegals into the U.S. and they convert many into slaves, indentured servants and worse.

Since the vast majority of ICE field agents are Hispanic, that would make sense.

There are over 100,000 Russians and Europeans here without current documents or any documents at all. But we never hear of ICE raids or arrests of white Europeans. ICE does not consider them to be the problem, apparently. So, the radio ads must be targeted at the Hispanic community.
When you compare 20,000,000 illegal Hispanics to 100,000 Russians, one can assume that about 200 times the enforcement activity will focus on Hispanics.

The INS press release said that the campaign was being conducted in a wide number of languages. Based on presence in the U.S, that likely means stations in Spanish, Kreyol and Tagalog might be the greatest beneficiaries.

Source????

Mine says the number is lower:

  • U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has 15,000 employees.
  • 38% of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees are women, while 62% are men.
  • The most common ethnicity at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is White (55%).
  • 19% of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees are Hispanic or Latino.
  • 15% of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees are Black or African American.
  • The average employee at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement makes $62,012 per year.

That data is old. And I said "field agents" and not the huge burocracy in DC; ICE does other things beyond the border and illegal immigrants.

"Latinos account for half of the U.S. Border Patrol workforce. But it’s not self-hatred that drives them to work for agencies that often target their communities." Latinos Make Up More Than 50% Of Border Patrol Agents And 24% Of ICE Agents; For Latino Agents, It's About The Money. - Parriva

Again, you are using a horribly tainted source. "White" is not an "ethnicity". It is a race. In the last Census, most Hispanics self-identified as "white".

If you have a source, post it. The reports I hear are that field agents are speaking English when they arrest people. Then again, we are an English only country.

The law says they can't discriminate in hiring. That would be DEI. So they can't base hiring on ethnicity.

I provided a link. I found the same data in multiple sources by searching on "Percentage of Hispanic Border Patrol Agents". You can do that, too.

If you look at Nielsen data for the Southwest, over 50% of Hispanics are English dominant. In some places, like San Antonio and Albuquerque and the Lower Rio Grande Valley, it is closer to 75% to 80% English dominant. So it is not surprising that the agents speak English.

If they don't speak the language, what difference does ethnicity make? Once again, they can't hire based on ethnicity. That's DEI.

If 50% is English dominant, who listens to all the Hispanic radio? Makes no sense.

Exactly. There certainly are plenty of Russians, Europeans/Scandinavians, and Canadians who've over-stayed their visas, but we don't hear about them getting violently scooped up and disappeared off the streets. Shameful.
At least there are now laws being codified in LA and in California, and in other states, and orders by regional judges, mandating that ICE has to have documentation and purpose for detaining these people. Why it took 6 months to take effect, instead of it being standard operating procedure, is the big question.

In contrast to these very controversial DHS ads (that may have led to the secretary's dismissal), we have a new campaign from the department of transportation. These are PAID ads, that have been placed on radio & TV stations by an advertising agency, featuring DOT secretary Sean Duffy. These new ads replace the previous campaigns using slogans such as Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over.

If you haven't seen or heard them yet, you will. They are in heavy rotation.

Meanwhile, recently when NPR was mentioning their sponsors, I was surprised to hear the U.S. Postal Service listed as one of them. So the government is still funding NPR... but not directly via taxpayers, as the USPS does not receive any income via taxes.

Meanwhile the government is funding commercial radio with taxpayer money (from DOT) that buys advertising. They identify it as such at the end of the ad.
