Houston radio log, early 1985

I did leave out KRBE-FM, and for good reason. They went through that horrendous "Hits Without The Hype" phase. I want to say around this very time period we're talking about. Vividly remember it coming out of a break and sounding bland and lifeless against the almighty Q-Zoo, to a teenager.

*Barely above a whisper into the mic*

"Hits without the hype, 104 KRBE...this is Tears For Fears".

A Top 40, with all the personality and energy of Classical. Pee-yew!

I remember the KQUE jingle only because that was my uncle's station of choice. He'd sit there for hours on end, listening to KQ, a cup of coffee at his side, and working one of his crossword puzzles.

A big thank you, Mark. Great topic you posted here. You've brought back some fond memories that've long since been stored away. I've really enjoyed the trip you and the 🐸 have provided down memory lane with this one.

🐸 is right. My timeline is apparently skewed. That version of KRBE would've been directly before 93Q flipped to "Easy Country 92.9" in the summer of '91. I guess it proves that I was predominantly a 93Q listener, and steered fairly clear of 104. That, and I should've listened to my folks and broke up with Mary Jane a lot sooner than I did. 🤭

I think the flip of KKBQ to Easy Country was in September of 1991. Definitely not earlier, as I have four hours of unscoped airchecks of the “Rock 40” temporary format KKBQ had during the summer of 1991. Those airchecks are from late August of that year.

Are you talking about an ex-girlfriend or some “recreational” substance?😵‍💫🤣
