Latest DFW ratings

I'm surprised that no one has started a thread on the latest Dallas/Fort Worth ratings.

Of note is the major jump that KDMX (Mix 102.9) took, going from a 4.2 and a 6.5 in just a single month. That also propels it into first place and is far and away the best ratings that this station has seen in many years, and probably the best in a couple of decades.

Also of note is KLTY -- it seems like they lost roughly a share point when the K-Love network took over the frequency, and they haven't regained it yet. Apparently listeners did find real value in the local feel of the old station.

Finally, it was a dismal book for KEGL. Since they returned to the rock format, they've generally been limping along in the 1.7 to 1.8 share range. Well, last month they managed to break out of that narrow range. Unfortunately, they broke out in the wrong direction, falling to a 1.1 share (down from 1.7 the previous month). That makes them the lowest rated full-signal Cedar Hill FM station (second lowest is WRR, at 1.8).

Right below WBAP AM & FM. How the once mighty have fallen. At least KEGL has a decent cume.

I’ve thought of doing that in the past when I start the Houston ratings threads each month but didn’t want to co-opt any of the posters actually in DFW. Perhaps I’ll start DFW ratings threads with just the numbers and no comment just to kick things off.

But where did they go? To another national religious network?🤔😒🤣

Whatever happened to all the rumors of KEGL going Spanish language (again)?

Is KXT considered a full-signal? I know it’s a Cedar Hill signal. Either way, at least the Eagle is doing better than KXT. That still is a very low bar to have more listeners than, sadly. Also, KNTU has surpassed the Eagle in the ratings, too. Maybe another nice small victory for @Todd Shannon.

It’s a Class C0 running 19.5kw but the 60 dBu contour goes through Denton and McKinney to the north, so most of the contiguous DFW urban sprawl falls within the primary coverage area.

Driving south on I-45 I get a good signal on KKXT past Fairfield, and more spotty reception just past Buffalo (the Texas one) before it starts to be stepped on by KHVU in Houston.

KLTY's previous one-time owners launched an on-line station "the Light DFW" with a lot of former KLTY staffers. I wonder if some KLTY's former audience went there since the other religious FM music stations do not seem to have gained anything from KLTY's drop post-K-Love flip. It's hard to know since no one sees the audience numbers for something like that. I wonder if they ever considered leasing one of the HD subchannels of one of the Cedar Hill sticks to broadcast a simulcast of the on-line stream to broaden the reach...

It's more dismal when you consider it fell below KNTU 88.1, which is a minimal C1 (that is essentially a tick above a class C2) rimshot facility that provides a city grade signal to a fraction of what KEGL does.

People don't listen to signals.
Even with the advent of streaming, still almost 90% of terrestrial radio listening is over the air via a signal. And for that 90% listening over the air, the vast majority of any station's audience comes from listeners within their facility's city grade signal.

My point is that if the content is something people want, they will buy better antennas to receive it. I've seen it happen. They will listen to AM radio if it's the only way they can hear their favorite sports team.

Yes, thus the point of my post that it is dismal that KEGL is underperforming to a station that is extremely disadvantaged in the number of people it can reach and capture.

Looking at it from the other POV, having a great signal is not an advantage for KEGL. It's not about the signal. That's my point.

97.1 isn’t around to be a ratings juggernaut. IHeart literally told us with the flip back to the eagle, is to just be a flanker for 92.5, and it gives them an FM to run mavericks basketball. The mavs make money for the station. They tried doing what they called sports talk, and it tanked the station. The Eagle makes money based off heritage just like kroq. What they’re doing now is fine and it’s cheaper. From what it sounds like, B&S are buying time on the Eagle for their show. You’ll see big jumps when the mavs return in a few weeks

I've never known an advertiser that bought ads on a station because it is a heritage station/format/calls
Generally, that happens when a business owner likes the station and sees it as "big" even if it no longer is big or brings in monied consumers.
