This is an interesting observation. The writer says by demanding the left accept the views of the right, they have created their own "wokism."

The right is using its power to do everything it complained about when the democrats were in power. Thus, they are now the new woke.

And the right worries about gun violence for the first time. The dates on both of these articles is BEFORE the Kirk killing.

South Park called that this season. 2025 feels like a reversed 2015 in that manner.

What's the opposite side of woke called? Brain-dead?

Here's what Al Sharpton said on MSNBC:

“What I say to people when they start talking about woke is, well what’s the opposite, sleep? You’d rather be asleep? And I think you change the argument. Do you want to be woke or do you want to be sleep?” Sharpton said.

I like mine better but yeah, same point.

I always thought "woke" was the most bizarre way to try to insult someone by saying they have their eyes wide open. I guess that's a bad thing for people who live their lives with blinders on.

It's sickening to see a group of people attacked by this administration, who identify a little differently from most people in terms of being male or female, and who just want the right to be able to co-exist with everyone and have the same rights as the rest of society, and live a happy life. The hate this administration has towards transgender, and the removal of their rights is too eerily like 'what happened in Hitler's Germany'.

Oh god, I just brought up Hitler. I don't want the thread to get locked. But how can you NOT compare the two.

If you do some research on the 1800s, look up the "no nothings." They have a lot in common with this movement.
Funny, makes you slightly nostalgic for 2010s era woke/tumblr culture. At least they made sense what they critiqued. This new group only wants control.

There are many who disagree with that attribution, and the exact context has not been found. Snopes is not without bias, as it is done by a tiny crew and financed from, as far as can be found, from one side of the spectrum. He was speaking of how the act has divided the country into hyphenated rather than being a unifying force. The statement has to be taken in context.

The context was part of a lengthy statement that also said, "Kirk said the Civil Rights Act "created a beast, and that beast has now turned into an anti-white weapon."

As background, for those who do not know, my first radio job was with R&B WJMO in Cleveland where I was the token white guy, and I even went with many of the staffers to Newton, Mississippi, where we helped register Black persons to vote. Newton was close to Meridian, where Mt Zion church was burnt and one member killed just a couple of years later.
Kirk was speaking of how the some of King's acts, particularly in his personal life, were not the same fine example that he is almost universally honored for. But the fact that these indiscretions were discovered in an even more vile and insidious FBI investigation makes them of little consequence.
There is lots of evidence that there is a group, such as that attached to George Soros, who have done some rather disruptive things, like reducing the standard of living of working class Brits. Going name by name would be a thesis, but Kirk's point is that many, mostly non-religious, Jews have been involved with social initiatives that Kirk did not agree with.

I was never a follower of Kirk. I barely knew who he was until he was shot. But, if I find him admirable for anything, it is for trying to break the influence of liberal extremists in the school and teaching profession.

Much like a host might present how something appears to them. Funny how that works.
In this case, the TV host said something that had been amply shown to be untrue.
Ok, and? It seems pretty straightforward you lump anyone who isn’t kissing the ring as a raging liberal.
One of the reasons why "progressive" talk radio, such as the ill-fated Air America (which lasted just 6 years) is that the so-called "left" is divided into more separate groups or factions. Very often, there is not consensus on all subjects. For talk radio, it meant that many subjects discussed were not on the agenda of potential liberal listeners.

The entire craziness of 2025 makes me nostalgic for 2010.
2010 was kind of foreshadowing what would come with the Tea Party. But I don't think a lot of people payed close attention and was calmer than today, so yes, I'm nostalgic for it too. Usually the first year or so of the decade feel similar to the preceding decade, so that one very much still felt like the '00s.

Goddamn it, David. We've had the quote in full several times.
I have no ability to accept any statement or declaration where the Lord's name is used in vain. This is one example.
