Kari Lake previews her plans for Voice of America in the next Administration.

On September 13 (UTC) the three evening SW frequencies of Radio Marti were on the air until 0400 (verified by my own listening) which is midnight in Cuba. There have been reports on DX forums of the day frequencies being extended by a couple of hours. So it seems the RM SW schedule is gradually being reinstated.

We are about three weeks away from the reveal of the B-25 time and frequency registrations by the HFCC, which go into effect October 26. Wonder if anyone involved with what is left of USAGM has made any? The current A-25 listings still have dozens of (now) wooden registrations for the various (former) USAGM services.
Heck, there are even registrations for government SW frequencies and stations in nations that have not only closed their SW stations, but have also dismantled their transmitter facilities too!

And it's not as if there are not loads of empty spaces on the SW bands!

And there’s about to be more empty space. According to reports on DX forums the licenses for most of the private shortwave stations in Germany expire at the end of this year, and the regulatory fees for them have almost tripled.
Why are they so bent on putting these stations out of business? They're not offending anyone. :'(

Nobody is “bent on putting these stations out of business.” The license term is simply expiring, and the fees for renewal have significantly increased. Presumably the licenses can be renewed.

Many, if not most of the German private shortwave stations are low powered operations that are barely above hobbyist status. They are pretty much aimed at the core SWDX community, and not a general audience. The owners may reach a point where the expense involved in running them is no longer worth it, especially with the overall demise of the shortwave platform.

the fee they pay has to do with the number of stations on air and with fewer, the fee is going up.. if i read things right from christian milling

Radio Farda hasn't been on any of its frequencies, 9450... 12035 or 9620 for the last few days

There have been numerous reports on DX forums about the missing transmissions. Yesterday I checked both the Riyadh and UTwente SDRs at various times throughout the day and didn’t hear anything on the scheduled Radio Farda frequencies, so they are again gone from shortwave.

It's been a while since we saw any news related to VOA or related government media. I just saw a story on DCRTV.com about an auction of radio & TV equipment belonging to Radio Free Asia. RFA is part of the USAGM that has been shut down by the administration. I guess they've reached a point of liquidation. It's interesting that congress doesn't seem to be interested in any of this. This is taxpayer money that bought this equipment. Now it's just coming back into the treasury, bypassing congress completely.

BTW I see some very good prices here. Some items at 10% of original purchase price.

Unfortunately, the current Congress, especially the House of Representatives, has decided, for the most part, to let this administration do what it wishes, legalities be damned.

The Auctioneers note on Rasmus site for the auction says, “At the request of the seller bidding has been halted until a future date to be determined”.

NYT article is paywalled, but it reports that the Trump administration will be shutting down the USAGM overseas news bureaus and marketing offices. The currently inactive USAGM transmitting facilities in Germany, Botswana, Thailand and Djibouti will be fully closed by the end of this year.

The USAGM transmitter facility in the Philippines was partially reactivated at the beginning of this month to resume broadcasts of the Radio Pilipinas World Service, which is run by the Philippines government. There is chatter that the facility might be turned over to the Philippines under the terms of its operational agreement since USAGM is no longer using it.

No word on the future of the USAGM Kuwait transmitter site.

Given the choice of them doing what they intended in Project 2025 (which was turning it an extension of the WHCA), and shutting it all down, this seems to be the better outcome. However, I don't expect this is the end game.

Interesting that Lake is moving VOA and USAGM. She is not officially responsible for that agency. She wasn't confirmed by the senate.

Also it should be pointed out that the previous administration intended to move VOA and USAGM into cheaper office space, but Lake shot that down when she came into office. So she's basically doing what the dems had intended to do.

Prior to the start of the year, the USAGM had plans to move out of its current headquarters into a new, privately-owned building with more-modern facilities. But Lake decided to cancel that lease agreement, a move that resulted in a break-up fee of $15 million being paid to the private landlord, the source said.

Apparently they want to demolish the old VOA building and sell the land. Have they discussed any of this with the various agencies who oversee this? Or is this just like the east wing demolition, where the building was demolished before anyone could stop it?

Without preservation efforts, the destruction would likely lead to the loss of numerous Depression-era murals that are located within the building, the source noted. It isn’t clear if there are legal efforts to preserve the building or block USAGM’s relocation to the NASA building.

Earlier someone posted a link to an auction taking place to sell off all the equipment in the building.

My question about all this so-called cost cutting: Why hasn't the debt gone down? Why are all these people getting fired, yet the federal debt keeps rising? Where is all this money going?
