Mo Kelly show out at KFI

What a shame. Live & local and qualifies for "unique" these days, because of that. Didn't agree with everything, but he, and the show, were connective and refreshing. Hope they don't put on more of the overnight UFO shows in its place. At least continue doing live & local. Godspeed to Mo and crew.
According to comments on the Facebook page of a KFI alum I'm friends with, Mo's last show mentioned that iHeart Los Angeles' in-office Halloween party had been cancelled on short notice.
When I was at iHeart in Sacramento (2013-2020), we had a branded bar cart and a branded bubblegum machine:

Did the bar cart only get rolled out for parties, or were you allowed to drink within reason at work? When I was in the Bay Area, some places I worked had a stocked beer fridge but it varied by company.
It was in the employee lounge---but apart from client parties (the only time alcohol was allowed), it was either empty or stocked with soft drinks. I'm trying to remember the last place I worked where alcohol was permitted on the honor system---and I think it was KSLY in 1974.
I've heard stories from people who worked with them, about TV news directors with bottles of alcohol in their bottom desk drawer right around then.
Yeah. There were a few, but most folks are just conflating it with the first episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show:
Right. The only worksite I've ever been in (and I didn't work professionally in radio) where you would occasionally see alcohol on the primesis was KXLU, the college station licensed to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. And even then, I only noticed that maybe once, maybe twice, on a couple of Saturday nights during the four years I attended college there. The reason that most worksites do not allow employees to drink alcohol on the job is because those workplaces and their owners could be held criminally liable if unprofessional employee behaviors result in property damage, personal injury, or even death.

You and I and everyone else "plugged in" to the industry will miss "live and local" but the average listener will think it's just a change in nighttime hosts.
Such is the reality.
I've enjoyed Mo Kelly since he was emailing as "Dark Gable" on Jim Rome's show, hopefully he gets a new job soon!

Well, that explains why Chris Merrill was filling in when I briefly listened in the car while out and about. I caught the end of Merrill's show, and all he said was that he would be back on tonight. The podcasts for Mo's previous shows have been removed.
Everyone under 30 (not me, I'm too old now) doesn't bother with KFI.
They stream Twitch while they drive instead. Always live.
Listeners just want sincere companionship. They don't want to be in the car alone. Radio was in the LIVE STREAM business. We just didn't know it. And that super power is always the first thing we cut.
I agree. I think it was a real courageous move putting a show like this on a talk station. Perhaps it was a holdover from the last regime. Unfortunately there's just no audience or money for it anymore.
He's already removed from the website. Some iHeart stations run repeats of earlier local talk at this time. Or maybe time shift everyone back to where they were before Mo was added. All the best syndicated stuff is already on KEIB.
Looks like soon we'll be adding KFI to the KGO/KABC collection...
There is a specific point in time when talk radio died; not sure I can exactly put my finger on when it was...

I can see KFI airing more podcasts like they do on Saturday/Sunday evening from 9-10 pm. Chris Merrill is filling in this week, maybe he'll become a new live and local host. I'm sure it would be offered to him at lower pay. I doubt there is any Premiere syndication that's worthwhile for the time slot.
