KQBU-FM changing call to KESS

Someone will correct me if I'm off, but if memory serves correctly the 'stros signed with Univision to have the games broadcast in Spanish on 1010 KLAT. When Univision doubled down with TUDN on both AM and FM in Houston, the team began airing on both. Once Univision sold KLAT to LMN, the games came off of 1010 and remained solely on 93.3.

Now? Who knows where they'll go. Maybe they move to 104.9? Maybe one of the wild west translator operators try their hand at some play-by-play?
880 am Latinos sport network?

Don’t know if anyone knows this but KESS has a little glitch. The signal stops for less than a second every once in a while.

Why do yall have TUDN on both of them? Why don’t yall move KESS to either of their HD2s?
Its to have flexibility to broadcast two live games, one on each station. Many games overlap dates and times, so we simply move one game to KAMA HD2. We did this before when tudn was on 93.3, the other broadcast would be moved to kove hd4, it no longer on the air.

It’s the radio version of overflow channels on TV regional sports networks.🤗

Estereo Latino needs some love .. been on the air for a week now with 34 likes.
Social media likes do not equate to ratings and revenue. But is a symptom of so many operators just putting new programming out there and expecting listeners to discover it with no marketing and then wondering why nobody has a year or two later, but then does the same thing over and over again.

They’re doing small promotions and give away a on the streets. Still needs lots of work, billboards, bumper stickers, tv ads. Well I don’t watch tv in Spanish so I wouldn’t know if they have ads on channel 45 for them. But still agree they need to do more promotions so people can realize they’re back. Might want to add they only have 27 followers on TikTok and 243 likes.

But I guess we will have to wait to see the ratings to see how many listeners they have. Still will take time to catch up to KQQK.

Remember, TU has extensive in-house marketing abilities with its own OTA television, streaming services and the like. It really does not have to use any outside media because its corporate reach in Houston is about 100% of Spanish dominant Hispanics.

I agree but when you have no numbers you, would be surprised how many time a client will bring up the clout or lack of it

The October book will contain only the first week of the new 93.3 format, so we’ll have to wait a bit. Won’t really be able to get a handle on the impact of Estereo Latino for several months. I doubt we’ll see the type of impact La Ley was able to make in a relatively short time.

I’m curious to see how much the MediaCo eastern rimshots will be affected. Those are likely prime targets for national religious broadcasters if MediaCo were to leave the Houston market.

There’s already too many religious broadcasters to share the pie.

You are forgetting a cardinal rule of broadcasting in the U.S.:

“Under no circumstances, EVER, under any conditions, can a market have too many religious stations.”

K-Love Inc. will want a signal for Radio Nueva Vida.

Hope Media Group will want a signal for Worship 24/7.

VCY has a station in DFW and several other Texas markets. They would want one in Houston.

Several other national religious broadcasters are in expansion mode.

Those eastern rimshots will be snapped up in a flash if the price is right.

People toss oceans of money at religious broadcasters and will throw even more if pressured to do so, as we live in a country that has been acculturated over several centuries to give large amounts of money to religious organizations.

A General Manager I worked under many years ago once said that the best way to get rich was to start your own religion. He also cited the tax advantages of doing so.

I do remember Univision used to carry Texas A&M's spanish broadcasts on 1010 AM. I think A&M games ended up on 93.3 a few times when 93.3 was still a simulcast of KAMA-FM.

It was amusing to see A&M's spanish broadcasts have a better signal in Houston than the English ones.

I don’t know if they’re doing work on 93.3. I caught them completely off the air for about 2 minutes. But when it’s on the signal is weaker and RDS is really weak. Also the HD is off
