Kennedy Center Changes

I wonder if name changes like this one, and Gulf of America, are reversible with a democrat as the next president? My hope is for the next democrat president on the first day of office, to undo everything that's possible by executive order.

Even this change isn't official. The law says it needs congressional approval. So expect a lawsuit from the Kennedys or someone soon.

They changed the name on the building today. So it's now the Donald J. Trump and John F, Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.

Seems to me if something is a memorial, shouldn't the person named be deceased???? Or did no one think about that?
True and also usually the President cannot have anything named after them until they leave office for good for some time. Not sure why this one demands something to be named after him while president is an odd one besides ego and we know the rest.

True and also Trump cannot have any federal or state property named after him while he is in office. From ones I seen in the past to have any federal or state property named after an elected official that person had to retire for good or deceased for some time and it needs a state legislature or congress for approval for a state or federal property named after a former official.

Case and point the CA-118 Freeway the Simi Valley freeway in the LA area is also known as the Ronald Reagan Freeway. It's a state property and it needed a state legislature approval for that one and Reagan had to be away from office for some time for that to happen.

I've seen most of last night's show. To be able to get rid of the recordings faster, I did an hour at a time, and I watched Stallone and Crawford first. The ending was a half hour devoted to Kiss. The Kennedy Center has never seen anything like that. I think people dancing in the audience began with Earth Wind & Fire but I could be wrong.

It seemed strange to me that someone like Trump would think Kiss was great. And he even applauded and stood for the first performances of their music. I noticed he left, but that was so he could go back down to the stage at the end. And all his introductions except the first ones were recorded in the Oval Office.

I was really surprised at Michael Crawford. I had pictured him as this dignified actor but he used to do slapstick. I was not aware of "Hello, Dolly!" but I had seen that movie before I knew who he was. My high school did a production of it.

I still have Gloria Gaynor and George Strait to go. I can't agree with Gaynor.

This year's Kennedy Center Honors TV special, hosted by the president, scored its lowest ratings ever:

The president had predicted the show would get its best ratings ever because he was hosting.

Nielsen needs to lose its license!

He'll blame it on Gaynor, saying she was there for DEI.
She didn't belong there, period. What was the purpose? I heard nothing to indicate her contribution to the arts was anything close to the others, or anyone in the past.

I have nothing against her two biggest hit songs but she just hasn't done anything that great.

My guess is the low ratings were because he was hosting.

I don't know whether he told the truth about how he felt about anyone, but otherwise he did a reasonably good job. Nothing partisan about what he said, I don't believe.

Kelsey Grammer, on the other hand, would make a great host. What a voice, and what a personality. He needs to be honored eventually.

Remember CBS edited his approximately 12 minutes of opening remarks to 2 minutes for the telecast. According to the Washington Post they edited by ‘leaving out several of his looser jokes, including a reference to the laughing audience as “miserable, horrible people.”

That sounds more like Trump.

Pretty sure she was there because the message of her big hit "I Will Survive" resonated with Trump. She also has been a donor to MAGA politicians and causes, as detailed in this August 2025 news article.

"I Will Survive," is considered to be an American anthem as it represents the views of many divorced people, particularly women. As to DEI, keep in mind that President Trump nominated her along with everybody else on this year's awards list. So while he may change his mind and say that she was DEI, it is in the record that he was the one that nominated her. By the way, I had read elsewhere that she hired a stand-in to perform for her.

With regard to Kiss, who sang the parts of the late Ace Frehley.

None of the artists being honored performed. They just sat in the balcony and were celebrated by others. Garth Brooks performed for Kiss.

Ace left the band in 2002, so others have been taking his part since then. Tommy Thayer took the role after 2002.

I think Gene & Paul are the only original members.
