Kennedy Center Changes

None of the artists being honored performed. They just sat in the balcony and were celebrated by others. Garth Brooks performed for Kiss.

Ace left the band in 2002, so others have been taking his part since then. Tommy Thayer took the role after 2002.

I think Gene & Paul are the only original members.

Shows how much I've been keeping up with that band. Thanks for the response!

"I Will Survive," is considered to be an American anthem as it represents the views of many divorced people, particularly women. As to DEI, keep in mind that President Trump nominated her along with everybody else on this year's awards list. So while he may change his mind and say that she was DEI, it is in the record that he was the one that nominated her. By the way, I had read elsewhere that she hired a stand-in to perform for her.

With regard to Kiss, who sang the parts of the late Ace Frehley.
I don't believe she was DEI because Trump wouldn't let that happen.

As much as I like them I dread the prospect of The Village people possibly being honored.
I felt the same way about George Strait this year, and even more so when Vince Gill appeared as a tribute artist. These are two of my personal country music icons. But objectively speaking, Vince was in great form and did justice to one of George's lesser-known hits, "Troubadour," which is among my favorites. I've never "canceled" art or artists on their political beliefs or associations, and I'm not going to start now.

I don't see why anyone would think Strait wasn't deserving.

And I liked a lot of his music.

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and Congress passed a law the following year naming the center as a living memorial to him.

I had a surreal experience over the holidays. We were going through some of my grandfather's mementos from his WWII service, and I was able to hold in my hands a letter that the White House sent to my grandmother in 1963 when he (my grandfather, not JFK) died. It was - for lack of a better term - a "form letter" expressing gratitude for his service in the war and condolences to my grandma, but it was personally signed by President Kennedy.

The demand for a $1 million dollar settlement aside, I'm at a loss to understand how ANY subsequent President could have the unmitigated gall to add his name to this cultural institution. What's next? Renaming the Kennedy Space Center? More to the point, what did John F. Kennedy do to hurt Trump so deeply that he felt the need to take revenge upon his legacy?

It has nothing to do with Kennedy (although there is jealousy that he's so revered) and everything to do with the president. He wants his name on everything. Particularly things named for democrats.
Specifically the post-1960 Democrats. Kennedy and Johnson's policies on civil rights sparked the transformation of the Democratic "Solid South" to a Republican fortress, breached in the presidential race when one of its moderate Democratic native sons (Carter, Clinton) was at the top of the ticket. Trump has made Andrew Jackson his hero from the beginning of his first term. Jackson was a Tennessee Democrat.

I also have a letter to my mother from the White House dated 1963, "signed" by President Kennedy. He used autopen a lot:

Father of the Auto-pen! Ah, that explains everything!

Wait a minute...I was told by the current President that Joe Biden invented the Auto-pen! What's next...are you gonna tell me he's never used it himself? Maybe that's what's causing the bruising on his hand...too much signing!

Anyway, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if he renames the Mark Twain Prize (also handed out by The Kennedy Center) and gives it to Larry the Cable Guy.

Could be worse, with no original band members like Starship (formerly Jefferson Starship/Airplane).

Depends on what you call "original." Mickey Thomas tours as Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. He sang on the band's 80s singles such as Sara.

He was the only "original" member under 80. I see David Freiberg is no longer touring with them. He was over 80.

Half of the original Airplane are dead. Grace is retired. Jorma & Jack tour as Hot Tuna. They appear to be winding down.

Sorry I was referring to Jefferson Starship, this is the one without any original members. Starship with Mickey Thomas is a different version of this band.

Since I'm not a fan, I have no idea which one is truer to the original Jefferson Starship, or the result of lawsuits regarding such.

A few days ago I saw an article about Nazareth ("Holiday" "Love Hurts" "Hair of the Dog") parting ways with their lead singer, who'd been with the band for 10 years, a couple years after the original lead singer (now deceased) left in 2013. Turns out the only original member is Pete Agnew, the bass player. who is 79.

Seems to be a pattern.
