Mega Moves to 99.3 FM, Something “New and Exciting Is Coming to 104.3 FM at 3:00 P.M. Today”

I think this was a very smart move for H. Sierra Broadcasting. Keep in mind that while KAJM's signal rimshots the northern portion of Phoenix (and that's where most of its promotion is aimed for obvious reasons), the station can be heard much better north of its transmitter in the more sparsely populated Verde Valley, whose population is very white and very conservative.(The station can also be heard from the outskirts of Flagstaff to the towns of Payson, Pine, and Strawberry just south of the Mogellion [not sure of spelling] Rim). I'm betting the new format will attract more older tourists from Phoenix and elsewhere as they travel to and from Sedona.

Mega should do fine on the 99.3 translator, though I wish there was a way beyond the HD3 channel of KMLE to make that signal more readily listenable in the southern part of Phoenix where most of the city's African-american population resides. I actually like the mix on 99.3--it doesn't have as many unfamiliar items to me as the 92.5 frequency in San diego does.

Don't care for the format personally, but I think a Classic Country along the lines of a "Hank FM" would have been more logical, given the lack of strong format competition (a few weaker rural rimshot signals with poor sound quality).
A Soft AC would have better synergy than Classic Country with the other two brands in the cluster. In terms of selling the three together for ad sales.

If they wanted closer demographics to their current formats, they should have done Bilingual AC and not straight ahead Soft AC. Those "Call Rafi Rafi" and "Top Dog Law" ads are going be as out of place on this station as they are on The Wow Factor and KNIX.

It's unfortunate that KKFR did not end up on 101.5, but CBS didn't want to pay Emmis Price. While I have nothing against News, the 92.3 Signal could benefit a format like Mega's, but Bonneville doesn't do Rhythmic formats. Similar to what happened in Denver to Jammin on 92.5 when CBS decided to go Country, while it ended up on 101.5 that also was a rimshot. You need a signal where people can hear it.

RAFI RAFI is just about everywhere now. You can't drive through Phoenix without seeing RAFI all through town...🤣

They obviously have a huge budget for radio advertising. If I were the owner of a radio station, I certainly wouldn't turn it down. I would be grateful for it!
But if I were a potential client, I certainly would. Jingles in an ad for a law firm tell me that they are less than professional (and Rafi is one of many guilty firms). They are apparently more interesting in marketing than representing their clients.

They could put those calls on 104.3, though, and KZNY is an available call sign.

True, but keep in mind that the 99.3 signal is no longer translating the station at 104.3; rather, it's translating the HD3 signal of KMLE. What might happen is that the 104.3 station will change callsigns to KZNY (KAJM doesn't seem fitting for a soft AC format) but the streaming urls for the two stations, done through Secure Net Systems (if memory serves) will continue to have the callsigns reversed.

"Yacht rock" would have been better than this.

"Yacht rock" would have been even better. Not sure if the suits from out of state realize this, but there are average 1-2 "yacht rock" acts locally per week (inclusive of original & covers), and probably more than that. Missed opportunity here.

But you know radio, the demographics for Yacht Rock are too old most likely. WOW factor seems to play quite a bit of the stuff that would qualify as Yacht Rock, so that's probably where fans hear it on the radio.

That’s the problem. The people still heavily listening to the radio are “demoed out” by ad agencies. Station owners are trying to attract a demographic that advertisers want, but are already entrenched in pure streaming.

As for Yacht Rock on the Wow Factor: John Sebastian has been against syndicated weekend features and “themed weekends.” He wants to let his music mix do the talking, even if there is demand for a dedicated Yacht Rock show.

I still kind of find it ironic that they're targeting Sunny for "at-work listening," when Securenet Systems' streams probably aren't engineered for handling multiple people streaming.
