TANNER IN THE MORNING COMING TO AN END

I'm not interested in how popular country music is today, or in all the different styles that don't resemble what country music was in the past.

If you like what they're doing now, fine. I'm not interested in most of what passes for country these days.

If I am correct in my assumption that others my age feel the same, Is it really a good idea to have personalities in their 60s on stations that are largely going after a younger audience?
I don’t care how old the jocks are as long as they don’t suck. Most country stations target 25-54, and WSOC skews older. The reason is WKKT went new country in the late 90s, while WSOC was a full service country station until around 2011 when they rebranded as “The New 103.7”. WSOC held onto that older audience.

I’m in my mid 30s, so half of your age. I prefer older rock songs from the 70s to 90s, same with Hip Hop/R&B, but I like the newer country better.

If they accept older DJs that's fine.

WKZL in Greensboro is still CHR but they hold on to the geezer DJs.

I honestly assumed WSOC was going "new country" when they started calling themselves "The New 103.7". In any case I listen to WAME at 550 when i want country, or 98.1 in Galax, VA.

I'm not THAT old.

There was a time when I still liked newer country songs, but most of the ones in recent years aren't my kind of country. Things do seem to be getting better. Zach Top is one of the good ones.

WSOC took a big ratings hit when PPM first launched in Charlotte, and that’s what prompted the rebrand to “The New 103.7”, which I always thought was a stupid name.

I prefer WKKT’s music mix most of the time, and that’s why I listen, but their jocks are irritating. I like WSOC’s personalities a lot better and have known most of them personally for years. I probably won’t listen to SOC as much once Tanner and Catherine leave.
