10 AM on 96.9, and...

Rhythmic AC, exactly what I thought it would be. It's aimed at 25-44 (largely) suburban white) females who grew up with Jam'n in the 90's and early 2000's. There will be some 80's in the mix too. It makes all sorts of sense. I'm sure those of you who wanted straight up Urban or Urban AC will be disappointed, but come on...this is Boston and Greater Media we're talking about....

This is NOT Rhythmic AC, it's Rhythmic CHR like KTU in NYC. With the difference that this Hot 96.9 play 'throwbacks' and KTU not (anymore).

Angry old white men talk? Count me in!

Maybe the perm format...? Note the 13k songs claim

>>@MattCostigan @bostonradio we are officially Hot 96.9! @wtkk is place for 13,000 consecutive songs to start it off. #hot969boston

Not much imaging so far for a new station. When a new station launch after each track you hear a station ID. First fail for a new station!

Most of their target listeners aren't tuned in yet. Just us geeks monitoring the format flip. They'll have some time to get everything ramped up. Don't expect the imaging to be too in your face. They're going for an slightly older crowd.

That's no excuse! The first impression you only can make once.

Processing sounding very flat and dry. They playing a jingle under a comming track but it sounds like someone put a fader down and up.

Again, no excuse. The first impression is important even your target listeners not tuned it yet.

Again, don't over react. What was the first impression of Mike when it first signed on? EVERYONE on this board panned it. EVERYONE wanted Star back. Eventually Mike settled in, and lasted a long time on a challenged frequency. People actually missed them when Entercom pulled the plug on it to move WEEI to FM. Cadillac Jack has programmed major market stations. He's only been in the building for what, a day? He knows how to make stations sound big. 96.9 will find it's legs.

It looks like they want to draw the crowd in with artists that are wildly popular.Hence why so much Rihanna right now and the throwback to Michael Jackson. This sound might be stale in other cities.Except that in Boston this sound has been lacking. It will draw in good numbers in the PPM world.

From what we have learn from KTU is that you can tweak a rhythmic format to skew younger or older depending in how well it does on CHR. I expect the playlist to be adjusted once they get settled in.

Now playing MJ - PYT. Love the mix so far. This is how KTU sounded in the late 90's. Great stuff!

Now playing Alicia Keys feat. Nicki Minaj - On Fire (Inferno Mix)! A track Jam'n has barely touched, yet I heard all the time on Hot 93.7 in Hartford. Loving this already! I see an urban lean here too (Jagged Edge, etc.)
