Old school thinking for a modern era radio station. And in the PPM world? How old are you, Jim?
First of all my name is Mark and not Jim. That is clearly noted within my signature found at the end of each of my posts.
Second my age is completely and totally irrelevant.
Third, old school or new school thinking is also irrelevant so long as the thinking works and accomplishes the overall desired objective.
Forth, listeners tune in to music radio for entertainment purposes regardless whether or not the market is measured using PPM or diary. Good programming verses bad programming is STILL good programming verses bad programming regardless how the ratings are measured.
Jingles will either add to or subtract from the overall entertainment value of the total programming same as the music selections or anything else that is a part of the total programming content. Jingles are not always necessary; However, in certain cases jingles do, in fact, add to the quality and entertainment value of the music programming.
In select instances jingles compliment news and news-talk formats, so jingles are not always limited to music only formats.
Again, anything, including, but limited to, jingles, that adds to the listeners pleasure and entertainment value will attract and keep listeners.
Whether you accept my explanation or not, your question has now been asked and answered twice.
