101.9 is now...

Anyone listening? Someone hit the "old" FM News Breaking news stager, then restarted Paramore, that made me laugh. The news is BROKEN!

I heard that also "Breaking news" i was laughing too. Getting the bugs out i guess.Furthermore it is great to have rock back, beats that fm news. Good luck to the air staff their though.

Here's a sampling of tunes in the first hour according to All Access-

BEASTIE BOYS/No Sleep Til Brooklyn
ALEX CLARE/Too Close
FOO FIGHTERS/Walk
THIRD EYE BLIND/Graduate
PHOENIX/1901
OF MONSTERS AND MEN/Little Talks
OFFSPRING/Self Esteem
BLACK KEYS/Tighten Up
PEARL JAM/Daughter
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE/Guerilla Radio

Definitely listenable despite the bugs! Mixing in some EDM would be great though, and give it that special NYC edge.

A touch of LIR to NYC....not a bad thought 8)

Yeah, it's nice to have this be a full-blown modern rock outlet and not sprinkle in tired classic rock like K-Rock for much of it's existance or RXP.

And by classic rock I mean anything that could easily be heard on Q104.3.

Country? They want to stop losing money, not continue the losses.

I really hope they have the right people to do the programing and that really know the history, along with the new music out there. Good luck!

It's about time, very happy about this! Hopefully it is done right, like Radio 1045 in Philly. Am sorry however for the folks at FM News who lost their jobs.

I hope they held onto Paul Cavalconte. I think he's going for the record for working the most formats at one frequency..CD101.9, NY Chill, CD101.9again, RXP, 101.9FM New (Chocolate format), FM News...)

As far as getting the format done 'right', keep in mind that this format falls under the banner 'Now Under The Same Old Management'.

'Minimal audience engagement' indeed. That disinfected euphemistic verborrhea, uttered by the person running the programming, sums a lot of this up. In other words, the blame for this NYC failure and the Chicago disaster gets deflected. Merlin's judgement had little to do with the catastrophe. It was all the audience's fault.

"'Minimal audience engagement' indeed"

Translate; "we couln't draw flies trying to be WCBS 880, so we gave up."

They WILL need some live foreground personalities to present the format, it'll be interesting to see who gets brought in...

I woke up this morning and thought I was still dreaming! This is so very exciting. I was even keeping track of all the artists being played… until the stream crapped out… a half hour ago...

Country.... just sayin'

Good Afternoon all. It has Been awhile since I have been on the R-I but I figure I share my thoughts. Getting into radio for me, I don't really care anymore. I make more now at my current job then I would have ever probably in Radio. I have my Active Rock show I volunteer for in Danbury every Friday afternoon but am limited to 3 hours :/ I'm happy with my show, celebrating 5 years with loyal fans & amazing feedback I get. I am very surprised that there STILL is not Country for NYC look at KIX 105.5/106.3 is Westchester & Fairfield they are doing Fantastic. I am so sick of radio playing the same over and over again that I cannot even listen to WCCC here up in Danbury since they went in the stale classic rock direction. I really dont want to hear anoymore stale rock. Spotify on my phone has been awesome. As for this It will be interesting will I prefer listening to 101.9 or Spotify radio on my 1 hour commute. if 101.9 play's Rage (which they did.... Godsmack, five finger death punch/Vocalbeat/disturbed (I can dream on these bands but realistically they will probably not) I will have it on constantly. when Q-104.3's HD-2 Channel was active rock last year I had it on everyday but then they changed it to alternative like 92.3 HD-2 and 102.7 HD-2 and I never turned it on again. I hate indie rock and will even settle just for harder rock at night. I listen to 880AM all night because everything else on the radio dial is mostly voice tracked but the big reason is playing the same crap all night.

I hope Merlin at least hires a consultant under 30 years old and not 50 years old wearing a Jacket and tie all day who gets paid to program this station will ACTUALLY LISTEN to it all day so he know how the rest of us feel instead of not caring.

My appologies ahead of time for spelling and grammer mistakes with R-I editing rule I cannot go back & fix mistakes

effing awesome! I watched monthly the 0.6 rating and laughed..now I hope to see a huge increase..welcome back! If done correctly, this station should be what rxp should have been and was becoming before the fmnews debacle.

I also hope Paul stays and I wish the best for the rest of the staff. But I don't think Paul holds the record. I am guessing that Dennis Quinn lived through even more flips on the very same frequency, dating back to the many formats under the WPIX-FM calls.

Waiting for the "What a huge opportunity this was to bring the EDM (Electronic Dance Movement) to a full signal in NYC!" posts...

Chill.

Some of you got what you wanted and unlike some of you that REALLY hate on dance and EDM and would wish me dead if my format came through, I congratulate you all. XCountry285 was looking for an alternative format so I hope he is happy with the results.

I still believe in EDM though and down the road, something can happen :). But once again to the rock fans, congratulations.

Hya Tony,

At least it's MUSIC. That's a start.

Bob 1370 and another poster named Bob hit the bullseye : YOUNGER programmers!

The immediate problem is finding someone that age (as Lee Abrams was when he started out) who actually cares about FM and terrestrial radio and music. That combination mandates a huge search. Current management probably doesn't have that sort of intrigue in their systems.

In any case: you might be up next, Tony. Best of luck to you. (So have that white Travolta outfit starched soon, eh? Lol!)
