102.5: this month's format

actually I DO remember seeing that logo...
on a billboard on westbound 24-40.
at first glance, I thought it was for Second Harvest Food Bank
(as the logo resembles a large dinner plate)

and after listening occasionally today...wow...Frank sure had a lot of crappy songs
to go with the classics. reminds me of some of the throw-away Elvis movie tunes.

my sources tell me scott shannons true oldies ..maybe as early as tomorrow morning.............but what do i know. ???.i'm in gallatin..now back to the gallatin thread........

If it turns out to be True Oldies, Scott will never let us hear the end of it!!!! scott stated and i paraphrase here.."there will NEVER be another oldies station on the air in nashville"..but think how many pages eduardo can now post here if it turns out to be true.......

Well, Well, Well,

I have two opinions about if 102.5 is indeed moving to Scott Shannon's Ture Oldies Channel:

A. My business opinion: Yes, Good move! It's a part of my family that WMRO (Magic 1560) is a part of, the ABC Family. With WVNS having to compete with 107.5, The River, Q-108, 96.3 Jack, Mix 92.9, & Magic 1560, this is a wise choice, and yes I would move to this format is I own V-102.5. The station has almost been a complete failure with everything they have tried since Bud change the calls from WDKN-FM to WQZQ, and it has tried every format since 1991, easy listening, classic rock, CHR, Hot AC, to almost Urban. Scott Shannon stays in touch with today's CHR hit's by doing mornings on 95.5 in NYC. The True Oldies Channel is a side project he does for ABC. Business wise, this is a good thing.

B. Now for my personal opinion: BBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLL! UUUUUUGGGGGGGGG!
I have removed 102.5 from my car button radio presets. I don't care to here some BLAH, Baby Love, My Baby love, or Buddy Holly's, that will be the day. If I hear that song again, I'll go NUTS! Now, this is my personal opinion only! Not business. I'm a 80's, 90,s and Today's Music Fan. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion, and that's my personal (outside business) about me and my music taste.

To all you jerks, jerkets, and old fogies that chew me out when I changed WMRO (Magic 1560) from 60's/early 70's Oldies to Hot AC/80's Hits, I hope you finally have a station to listen to and stop telling me I need to play OLDIES! My oldies is the 80's NEW WAVE THANG, which that music is now reach over 25-30 years old! To me damn it, that's OLDIES.

Now I've have spoke, ya happy Romer!

Frank 102.5 beats four days of "Hit The Road Jack" by Ray Charles, before 96 Kiss signed on 1983.

Three years ago I listened to Martini 106 while visiting New Orleans. Format included Sinatra and some big bands, some jazz, some lounge music. Format did not last until my next trip there just months later.

102.5 could run an artists of the day format. Wednesday could be Garth Brooks: 24 hours of Garth. Thursday could be 24 hours of David Lee Roth. Have fun with flipping formats.

Come to think of it, now I do remember seeing that logo. I believe I saw it on the billboard on that big hill where 40 and 440 meet on the west side. I thought the logo represented a full moon! :D

And as long as they are Frank FM, they might as well play some Frank Zappa, too! 8)

i'm in some sort of accordance with scott..i've listened to true oldies some..but still hear the same old same old as scott refers to..just too many songs from 60's/70's/80s..to play "pretty woman" every 90 minutes...it will give that demo something to listen to..and the station will have 100% of that demo..once they find it..and if they can hear it..so if it pulls a 2..buds doubled his ratings..and from what i can tell from the syndication..it's automated..so no talent to pay..time will tell if it will sell........

Hmmm, earlier, you said you couldn't pick them up in Gallatin, anyway, so which is it?

Meanwhile, I've been getting my oldies fix from WKOM and WVCP. Not a very good signal from either, but for right now, I haven't had much else to listen to in the way of oldies.

Does any one remember when Cromwell flipped 102.9? for one day after PC103 and before The Buzz, they werre Garth 102.9 playing only Garth Brooks music. I was glad when that was over.

This topic is now #1 on the list of most-viewed topics on this site! It was #9 this morning, and then later, #5. Kinda like watching your favorite songs climb the charts! ;D By the way, I don't remember the Venus logo on the front page of this site! ???

It looks like a logo you'd find for a station that played new age music or something like that, What format was Venus? (I'm not from around here.)

P.S. And what-th-heck is 1550 The Light? It was included in some kind of Cromwell legal id I heard.

It's a daytime-only black gospel station in Clarksville. They're relaying it on a translator on 101.9 FM - not sure where the translator is (suspect the 102.5 tower) but it's got a heck of a signal in Pleasant View.

=======================================

Semi-off-topic question for those who may know the Clarksville market better: who belongs to the three-tower array across the Cumberland from downtown? FCC DB says there aren't any directional AMs in Clarksville. Did this used to be 1550?

Hot AC. They were aimed at women when they were "Venus," but decided at some point to drop that when they found out they were getting (or maybe they needed!) male listeners! At least they dropped Bob and Sheri! ::)

Yep.

And since we are pulling in out-of-towners to this topic (welcome, y'all! ;D), I just thought I would point out that the correct pronunciation for the city of license is PEE-grum! ;D I live here, and bought a house here, so I should know! ;D

And their tower is in Charlotte, TN, which is actually quite a ways from here, actually closer to Clarksville than to Nashville.

They were aimed at women when they were "Venus," i still contend they should have called 102.9..the "PENUS"..instead of the buzz...one station for chicks..one for..d..... well you get the idea....

If what Eduardo always says is true, then V-102.5 (or whatever they will soon be calling themselves) is making a big mistake!

i don't buy his premis at all..now 55+ may NOT spend as much as often as the 18 to 34...but they DO spend in large $$$ when they do..granted probably more bodies in mass in 18 to 34..and a station programming to 55+ may not sell as much dollar wise..but it's still a viable format in certain areas..maybe not where edwardo is...but he's not selling in every market in the USA..but if V flips to T/O..and pulls a 2,5 or better..still much better in the book than they were..with no other "oldies" (i HATE that term)..station..they will have that niche cornered..and with the format pie split into so many different slices today as compared to 30 years ago..that seems to be what stations do to grab an audience..look at the formats in town and T/O would be the only one going for that demo..i just wonder if the interest is still there after so long without that format on the air ? and with no local talent to help pull in an audience..will listeners stay IF they find it..or just throw another cd in the deck..?

Scott - you're dead on. I remember several years back when Gerry House was talking about the playlist at WSIX being somewhat "limited". Mike Bohan spoke up and let him know it could be far worse - he could be like Coyote at the other station and they aren't making any new oldies! XM 50's and 60's have much deeper playlists than True Oldies and our typical FM oldies stations and I still end up flipping the channel. Certain songs have just been beat into the ground. When 96.3 first flipped, I thought they were nuts. But, time and wisdom made me see the light. They were in a rut and stuck there. Frank FM is far more interesting than True Oldies will be. We might as well start a countdown to the next 102.5 switch if that happens.

Firepoint525 - I think the old AT40's on Sunday morning were great. I get them on XM too. Watching them blow up a good format is a shame but what can they ever do with that signal and no ad budget. I still think they should have swapped The Buzz and The Fuzz and given 92.9 a run for their money with a decent signal. It's amazing they have played with 102.5 for years and kept 102.9 virtually unchanged when it hasn't produced anything either, but has a stronger signal that you'd think they could do something with. I think they were on the right road with 102.5 - but there is only so much you can do with a station that you can't hear!

you really think 1560 was their competition? sorry, but no one outside these boards knows about 1560

Can we just get a Scott/WMRO board please and move on. Firepoint needs to move from Pee-grum now.
Sadly, as we've stated before --- the best sounding stations (musically) always get bad ratings. The more
over played crap ya play the better the numbers. I can only imagine how bad 102.5 will have to sound if they
try to get a 3.0 share...

Two other questions and a comment:

1.) Is Dean done?

2.) Scott, how about flipping to oldies at 11:00 tonight? Maybe even Spanish oldies sprinkled in? Call it
BUNTIN Oldies ONE-FIVE--SIXTY PLUS...
