103.9 Jack FM

You gotta get iHeartRadio for Clear Channel stations, most of them are premium choice anyway, but the ones that are good are worth the app I suppose.

As much as I hate Clear Channel for the crap they give us in Columbus, they have some of the best stations of my favorite genres on iHeart.

Here's the thing though... If you're listening to TuneIn Radio, why on earth would you listen to anything local? The whole reason I listen to TuneIn or iHeart is because everything local including the new Jack 103.9 is complete garbage.
Columbus radio beats the hell out of radio here in Cleveland. Talk about garbage.........lol

Oh I don't know about that. You should read other topics on this Columbus board to hear all the complaints from listeners here about our radio stations. I know you folks miss not having a full time active rock station or a good signaled Alternative station there. But at least you not overloaded with extreme classic hits or country like we are.

I would take what you guys have in NE Ohio over our garbage any day of the week.

Wonder how much impact poor audio has on ratings? Doesn't seem to have hurt CD 102.5 much. Actually, I guess we can't really tell whether bad sound has shaved off a little of their listening...

On another subtopic, I notice that -- even though it just debuted days ago --, 103.9 Jack-FM's Facebook Likes are growing much quicker than Jack 98.9 did, and certainly WAY quicker than 103.9's previous two formats. Or, do they have some sort of funny business going on a la the Answer (which I understand as Salem encouraging supporters in other markets to "Like" 98.9 -- there's sure no way they'd be at over 4000 Likes otherwise...).

Up to 467 "Likes" already. We'll see if the people "liking" are actually LISTENING, when August ratings come out (which will actually cover July 18 to August 14).

Isn't it funny that most folks say their home market radio sucks and some other market has better choices? And yet the people in that better market believes their market sucks?

I was thinking the very same thing.

I was thinking about back in the day how everybody claimEd that 92 X sucked and WNCI sucked because they were qfm96 fans. I also remember the Clevelanders who would come down here claiming QFM 96 sucked and that WMMS was such a great radio station. I myself engaged in those discussions, finding the Randy Michaels Q102 much preferable to any of the Columbus stations at the time. The The only difference is that today there seems to be a consensus that all stations really do indeed suck.

Surprised at how inconsistent the national feed can be. I was listening for a couple hours yesterday and it was just one 70s or early-80's classic rock song after another -- including a lot of AC-compatible ones -- and maybe 2 or 3 newer tunes sprinkled in per hour (also generally AC compatible). But today the sound is very broad in terms of eras and styles. Will the real DG Jack-FM please stand up?

I notice TuneIn shows 103.9 Jack-FM's location as Worthington. Could that suggest that the move to the West Side tower is imminent? Any thoughts on how much, if any, that will help remedy the havoc the Twin Rivers tower wreaks on that signal?

BTW, that "classic rock with a little spice" mode they seemed stuck in earlier this week seems to have gone away, hopefully never to return. It's back to a broader mix, with CR as just one of many styles.

The answer is no - I am guessing Tune-In is just pulling whatever random data they found in a database (and the FCC CP for the new site lists Worthington).

Not sure how much it will help near downtown - HOWEVER, Any more center of city signal they will have (west side included) will help them overall.

I enjoyed working at 103.9 when it was The Eagle. Obviously, the station was meant as a flanker to Q, so that Stern would win in mornings. I recall there was a Jack format on 107 (?) that didn't resonate. Those rimshots are destined to be a revolving door of format-a-rama with short term results. Once the interest spike subsides, the wheel will spin again.

Except that those Class A sticks haven't traditionally been in the center of town like 98.9, 105.7 and 107.5. Now you have 106.7 and "maybe" 103.9.

We now have almost as many Class A signals in the center of the city as we have Class BS. Still pretty pathetic, in my opinion, but better than it was.

The FCC should do a clean sweep of everything and do a massive reallocation. I personally like the sound of analog FM so I hesitate saying they should go to digital, but enough of these crappy signals.

"What goes up must come down / Spinning wheel got to go 'round"! (I've played ten Blood, Sweat & Tears songs so far on "Secrets", but not that one.)

By the way, it's called the Wheel of Misfortune that they spin out at Nabco.

August 21 -- less than a month on that deficient signal, and with no on-air Facebook-page promos -- and it's 826 Likes.  That's more than their previous music format got during its entire run, which was at least a couple years.  I've been glancing at the build in 103.9 Jack-FM's Likes almost daily out of curiosity, and it's been 20-50 *every* day, with no signs of slowing down.  Until yesterday, that is, when the trend just suddenly fell off a cliff, with only 1 new Like.  I could understand a gradual leveling off, once a bunch of P1's of the old station made their approval known, but this extremely-abrupt change odd.  Makes one wonder...

All the news seems to be fake anymore, so why should astroturfing "likes" be any different? I remember some "health stories" that came out a few years ago about cholesterol or some other such medical issues. They were all over the airwaves. It wasn't even a month later that the airwaves were bombarded with TV and radio commercials for some drug for the very same medical issue. Brilliant the way it was choreographed from a PR standpoint, maybe a little too cute. But it explains why everybody should question whatever they hear or read anymore.

True. Which -- bringing it back to radio -- is why I find the use of monikers like "The Truth" and "The Answer" extremely disingenuous and annoying for non-religious stations.

Speaking of 98.9 "The Answer," how is it they have 4,250 "likes" on their Facebook?

Obviously most of those aren't really listeners. I recall that those Facebook Likes started flooding in almost as soon as the station debuted. I recall someone saying other Salem stations/websites solicited people in other markets to support their new Columbus venture by Liking it. The Answer's cume was only 14,700 in Jan 2013, the last time the numbers were published publicly.

Don't be so hard on The Answer. Although I'm not a huge fan of their neocon take on things, the talk shows are generally on the more intelligent side compared to the rest of talk radio.
