105.7 The Earth Spartenburg

They're putting Earth on 103.3 as of March 1. Some of the 103.3 stuff is moving over to 105.7, but most of them aren't buying into the BS that it's not a big downgrade, so a lot of the 103.3 stuff will just go away.

no more beach bob? beach bob nations and the other investors must be spending a fortune if it is going to be a format round the clock

Well, I imagine the price has come down. They havent been able to replace the Skip Church/other idiot midday thing, and they can move Drake over to 105.7. And, as noted before, there was trouble brewing with Beach Bob anyway. It'll give Earth Greenville and Spartanburg, but they still wont have Anderson and Pickens.

Smart move. Most of the stuff on 103.3 is/was crap IMO (sorry) and I won't miss Bill Drake.

They should put 103.3 and 103.9 back together. Those signals compliment each other well. I don't know if there's enough of a Spanish-speaking population to have 2 Spanish stations on FM (with 94.9 being the other).

Might have an effect on Chuck FM's recent honeymoon.

Good to hear about it being on 103.3. Means another option for us to listen to in Greenville, which is always welcome.

As I have said before, no one should want to see this fail. EARTH FM & Love & Hudson represent the birth of consultant free, non-corp radio...again in this market. However, I still hold to my original statement of concern: There is a very large sum of money that must be made, just to break even. If they could eventually acquire 103.9 then they would have a clear path. You would think that as long as the "Pecoes" keep coming in, the highpanic broadcast is safe. Tell that to Beach Bob, and Bill Drake. I also ask this: What if Davidson dee-sided to sell the whole basket?

103.3 is an absolutely terrible signal to the south, at least for me - doubt it'll make it to Anderson. It's waaaaaaaay too close to 103.1 for comfort. Like I've said - I much prefer the 103.9 signal to 103.3 - more central to the heart of the market, and such a clearer frequency. According to the maps, I should be able to get 103.3 here fairly decently, but the co-channel interference is absolutely horrible! I can't believe that signal was able to be wedged in.

What will happen to Bill Drake? Is he moving to 105.7/910?

Bill Drake on 910/105.7 makes a lot of sense. The show is focused on Spartanburg anyway, and renting time on WOLI ought to cost less. Not sure what else they will put on during the day. I assume the Wofford and Spartanburg HS sports will stay.

Bill Drake....I think I threw up in my mouth. How does that guy even get on air? That is like radio on ambien.
He's only been on the air pretty much his whole life. But if you pay Davidson Media for the time, you can have a show too.

I agree. Thank God I'll never have to hear him anymore when scanning the FM band. Don't think I want to go back to the 50s.

Just because he's been on the radio longer than any of us have been alive doesn't mean he's good ;) I do wish Earth would be on 103.9 though instead of 103.3 because 103.3's signal is not as great, its so spotty. It's better than 105.7 but it's still limited. If they could be on 103.9 then no one could say they didn't have a fighting chance.

I think 103.3 is a great signal, almost perfectly halfway between the 2 major Upstate cities.
Last weekend I drove from my home in Gaffney to Easley and it did very good almost that entire length.
Signal got weak but still listenable near the Jockey lot about 10 miles north of Anderson Near Williamston.
Also did good along highways 81 & 153 in Powdersville, no problems for me.
I've never had problems in and around Greenville with 103.3,
WRIX & WZSN don't seem to bother it when I listen. I wonder if Spin will move to 105.7

Wow, I've never had that luck. 103.3 covers the Spartanburg area way better than Greenville from my experiences. 103.3 is a difficult catch on a clock or portable radio even in Simpsonville if you don't like a little static. During tropo, I have heard static blips on Woodruff Rd.

The main problem I have with 103.3, especially during tropo, is interference with 103.1 and 103.5 as you get further to the south of Gvl county.

Ideally, these stations should be paired. That's why 103.3 signed on in the first place, to fill in the holes from 103.9. 103.3 goes further, but 103.9 penetrates much better due to being a full 6kw. I personally would take the solid Greenville and Pickens county (with better penetration, and decent reach in to Anderson and Spartanburg) 103.9 offers than the further reaching, but less penetrating and more static/interference prone (in Gvl county, the core of the market) 103.3, if I had to choose between the two.

BTW, I should add, ANYTHING is better than 105.7. Still would be awesome to have both 103 signals back together again. I'd rather have a solid classic hits simulcast than two Spanish stations on FM. ;)

The only complaint I have about Earth 105.7 is that they need a website. The one they still have still has all that Yahoo Sports stuff on it. These days you need to have a solid website. They need to get that up soon.

I for one and sorry to hear that Beach Bob will no longer be on the air. I really enjoyed his music and personality on the air. I will really miss hearing a lifelong Greenville guy on the air. This also seems to be a big blow to the independent radio era and yet another win for corporate radio which is a shame. As a Furman graduate I am curious as to what the plans are for the Furman Sports broadcasts on the new 103.3?

BBob, had a little too much of an ego, he would drive 500 miles to introduce a band, gald hes gone,, way better talent
