106.9 WKDN will become IQ 106.9

What did they do to the signal? Here in Toms River, NJ we used to be able to pick up WKDN. Now, it is all static.
It seems weaker here in Paoli, Pa too. WIDN in Camden came in ok. Now WWIQ seems more to have more static. Are they still broadcasting (when they are on the air) from Camden?

This is one of the sloppiest stunting technical-wise. It sounds like they are testing transmitters. One minute the signal is crystal clear, the next minute filled with static as if power was reduced.

Kenny,

Remember all that the Merlinmen were getting was a market wide signal. There was no format and no studio equipment since everything was piped out of Oakland. As with the rest of Family's properties, since all they cared for was a "listenable" signal, the equipment was, in all probability, in poor shape, held together with spit and bubblegum.

With that in mind, what you are hearing is probably trying to either make what they have sound "competitive", until they can upgrade with newer and better equipment, or at least sound listenable with what they have. You are hearing things, that you otherwise would never hear during a regularly scheduled broadcast. In short, you are listening to "inside baseball".

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

Agreed.

Some of these posters seem to think that radio stations' format/ownership changes are there for their own amusement. These things take time, patience, and a lot of hard work by a lot of unsung heroes, the broadcast engineers. These guys do the unthinkable every day with generally zero credit from the listening public.

I'm told that the WKDN equipment is '70's Vintage. Probably beat to crap. The 38 kW from Camden still sounds good, and I bet they're trying to get the 9 kW atop One Liberty in shape. Thanks to ccuphl for the correct aux site info.

i have one thing to say about Merlin can't they get there act together before they do all this tweaking?? it seems they get a station then do all this weird stunting and transmitter fixes on the air instead of just taking the station dark or maybe before they receive control!!
