Not sure if this lasted all game, but when I turned on WECK for the Yankee game is was dead air, and then it played a station ID, and went back to the dead air. Luckily, my XM tuner that gets plugged either into my car or my boombox was in the car at the time, so I can listen to the game that way.

I was in the car and got dead air for most of the postgame until I switched over to 880 AM out of NYC.
Was it some silly trick by Mike Klein (sp?) as the UB football game producer to goof things up as a way to take a little shot at WECK management/Dick Greene for pulling the plug on the local talk format or simply a technical issue that wasn't addressed until sometime after the game started?
I checked WECK again around 9 pm and the game was on but the reception was absolutely terrible so I went back to 880 AM?
Who is the station's on-call engineer if there are technical problems?

Now, I will say such a technical glitch during the playoffs can't be excused. Dick Greene needs to step up and sit in the control room himself and monitor the games, especially during the playoffs, if he's not going to pay for a board op. In fact, I question the very idea of automating a live sporting event because of all the uncertainties -- rain delays, stoppages in play for other reasons, etc. At the very least, Greene needs to install an off-the-air alarm that automatically calls someone when there's silence. If this glitch was as lenghty as others have indicated here, that's really, really, really bad!
As someone who has made mad dashes to a radio station to fix automation glitches, I can sympathize. Stuff happens, especially when you're dealing with computers. But again, someone really needs to be paying attention!
I definitely agree, esp. with many people listening because of the playoffs............A funny thing happened today when I was listening to music on the station. (Having the Yankees on is beneficial because somebody like me will then have station on when they turn their radio back on)......."Silly Love Songs" was playing and then all of a sudden it was the emergency broadcast system, without saying it was a test. I'm wondering holy cow -maybe it's a real emergency! LOL.............But, it goes thru the whole thing (finally saying it was a test of the EBS), and then returns back to "Silly Love Songs"

I am! I never thought I'd listen to music on AM ever again. Even when I was listening to KB from 2003 to 2006, I wasn't tuning in for the music. I'm not a big '50s fan. So, I listened to KB for the hosts and the nostalgia. But I found myself listening to the Breeze while sitting on the back patio this summer. When lawn mowers are running or kids are screaming in the next yard, the fact that I'm getting music off an AM signal on an old boom box was just fine. The Breeze playlist is quite extensive. I'm hearing songs that I haven't heard on the radio in years. And I like the fact that I can hear "Mack the Knife," Three Dog Night's "Liar" and Sheryl Crowe's "Winding Road" in the same hour. Add the personality of Kevin O'Connell in the afternoon, and it's an enjoyable listening experience. I know it's fashionable to criticize whatever Dick Greene is doing on the Breeze. Obviously, the station continues to have its "issues" in light of the Yankees playoff game snafu. And I'm probably in the minority here. But I kinda like the Breeze, and I think it's much better than the erratic talk format the station had been running. Just my two cents!

I also listen to WECK, I like the choice of music. There does seem to be a problem with the streaming tonight, might have something to do with the Yankees game.
Best case? They don't petition the respondents about their association with the industry!! (Thus throwing out the entire survey period, and screwing up the already screwed up survey period
WLVL Lockport gets a point 6, so it's kind of sad that WECK, with a better signal in Buffalo, gets a .5, worse when you consider that WJJL, possibly the most disjointed station in Western New York, gets a point 4. For years, the keyboard consultants here knew there was an audience waiting to be served by WECK. It may be 65+, but at least there's something to sell, albeit Catholic cemeteries, elder care and and wheelchairs. Money's money.klutch00 said:

Will we hear from either Brad Riter or Nick Mendola on the latest ratings book? I'm at least one person curious to hear what they think.
I've heard Brad is now involved with politics but has nothing going with broadcasting at the moment and Nick is still doing the UB games on WECK and some other freelance broadcast work while also working at a local sports arena.

As a casual observer here I also would be curious to hear what Brad & Nick have to say. Did the ratings go up for WLVL & WJJL or did WECK's go down?
