1450 silent for 6 months

Music Of Your Life? Pulled a 2 share with that format on 1450, but that was quite a few years ago now. Is the audience for MOYL still kickin'? Or is Timeless Cool the modern day version of MOYL?

Country legends...
BUZZ! Wrong answer. It will be suicide putting a country legends on an AM when you have an FM with the format already on with a transmitter in downtown.

I'm standing by my belief in the Timeless Cool format after hearing it on the air in Frankfort.

That goes to show how much attention I have been paying to the Louisville market. I stand corrected. Hmmmm, maybe urban-gospel then...

Again, you want to go head to head with WLOU/WLLV, who have been doing urban gospel for the last X number of years?

MOR, Wayne Perky mornings...no one's doing that anymore!

MYOL might work if the station was out in the east end where the older audience is. Timeless Cool is more of a contemporary jazz and triple A format. Not as rock as WFPK is so I don't see a direct head to head there. It would appeal to a more downtown, office audience and possibly U of L folks.

I would put Talk Radio Network's "America's Radio News Network" on 1450. 15 hours of live news coverage per day. Throw in some local southern IN news at top and bottom of each hour and sell local paid programming.

That's very possible, gabigley1...when Cumulus and Citadel got serious in the buyout talks, Cumulus probably pledged to hold action on CP's, dark stations, and most format changes until a deal could be (and eventually was) struck.

One thing I forgot in an earlier post...the station would strike a deal with a local brokerage house, business publication and/or commodity exchange to get prices and local market news for the local inserts on Bloomberg which, I believe, has mandatory local fill at :14, :34 and :54 (the last time I set up automation for their feed).

I still think "Timeless Cool" is the choice for the after-business and weekend programming!

It would make sense for Calvary to acquire it since their translator on 102.7 only covers part of the market, and has some co-channel competition from WYSB.

Does anyone know if Cumulus has stripped the Louisville studios of equipment, including the extensive video/audio setup they used when WQKC/1450 simulcast the sports shows early in their ownership on cable and an LPTV? I remember a big article in RADIO Magazine about the system.

You mean the article that came out a week after they dropped the sports format? :D :D :D

You know, that's right! I got my copy of the magazine about a week after "The Ticket" got punched.

As a former morning show host and station manager of that 920 w stick suffice it to say, AVG will stay silent until Lew decides to sell the
rights for under 250K. The debt service on that station was $ 40,000/mnth with billing (even with IU) maybe hitting a peak of 37,500. We had to borrow money every pay period from QKC (Seymour) to make payroll. Forget adult standards, forget sports programming; satellite radio KILLED XVW/AVG.

Satellite radio didn't kill 1450. Poor programming did. In order for any small AM to make it you have to give the public something no one else is providing. 1450 had that with the "Classic Hit Country" format. But, they screwed it up by playing SHEDaisy, Billy Gilman, Shania Twain and other new acts. When you say you're playing "classics" the listener is tuning in to hear Merle, Willie and Dolly. Not The Dixie Chicks. When 1450 was playing Adult Standards (before the switch to country) I heard Jim Lucas playing "Touch Of Grey" by The Greatful Dead.

Soo!!! that's what killed QKC-Seymour...siphoning off the profits

I still stand by my earlier post regarding potential programming for WQKC. Nobody is doing anything for the grossly-underserved 35+ demos, and the ones who step out and program for them will lock up some lucrative accounts and do very good numbers. A local-channel AM such as 1450 is ideal for niche programming, with or without the business radio element.

Ergo, Timeless Cool or True Oldies Channel.

I just wish someone would buy 1450 and get it back on the air! August 2 will be 1 year silent. Ridiculous for the one time "Big X".

I think the price is right. I had a look at the asset and the asking price includes the the building in Jeff and about 6 acres.

What are they asking for it?

Jim Lucas had NO CLUE about the GD; the only GD material we would have had access to was from collection, which never made it to 725 Magnolia. The format mix was 80% CC, and 20% CHR when we switched in Nov. '98. Why would any true radio "fan" listen to CC on a 920w AM station when it comes in crystal clear on SiriusXM? All due respect, pseuod-omnipotence is not a good color on you.
