All Mo all the time.
What is it with the folks at CC? They do away with the Angry Guys, fire Jeff Piccoro, Paul Sturgeon, and pass on the obviously talented, professional-sounding, and apparently available Marc Amazon in favor of Tom Gamble wannabe Mo Eggar. And as if it isn’t enough hearing him on the air from 9-noon, he is now doing sports attacks in morning and afternoon drive plus covering the Bengals from Georgetown. His morning reports with Tim Lewis typically turn into ten minute discussions. So we get to hear even more Mo.
It would be one thing if he were listenable. But his immature, amateurish presentation would not seem appropriate for a 50,000-watt sports talk station in a medium large market. There was a time when guys like this cut their teeth in places like Lima and Peoria. But I guess this is what we get from corporate radio in the enlightened age of consolidation.
Mind you this is not a personal or professional attack on Mo. To his credit, he seems to know his sports and may be a nice enough guy. This post is directed toward those in charge. Has it gotten so bad that you are now paying minimum wage to on-air personalities in some of your larger markets? Why have you allowed someone who sounds so immature to be all over the place on your 50,000 watt sports talker? You are not doing Mo or yourselves any favors.
And before a certain poster replies and compares Cincinnati radio with his beloved hometown of Chicago, remember, this is not market #3. We are ranked 28th by Arbitron. But at the same time, we should not sound like market #251.
As I keep echoing in my increasingly infrequent posts here, radio is becoming less and less relevant all the time. The bad programming that is nestled within the huge blocks of commercials and clutter is no way to compete with Internet streams, ipods, and sat radio. The only thing that will keep people listening is LOCAL programming that is also GOOD.
