2016 Rio Olympics on NBC

Easy solution: Government funded Olympics coverage broadcast free on PBS and C-SPAN. Congress isn't in session in August anyway.

All it would take is for Congress to allocate the money. Call it the Free Olympics Act. Do I have a co-sponsor?

Sure, what's a piddling $4.38 billion (what NBC paid for the Games) in taxpayer money if it means getting all the action with no commercials and, at least on C-SPAN, no jingoistic U-S-A! U-S-A! bias. Not sure about PBS, though. Its coverage may lean toward nations with healthier economies, tougher environmental laws, and cheaper medical care than the US.
 
I think the Olympics is too much for our DVRs, one can record up to 6 shows (or Olympic events, in this case) at once. But, the Olympics are too much for our recorders (even for Bright House!), it can't take up that many sports all at once (more than 6 events at once), except if you have Comcast. Tampa is going to have to deal with this, as we don't have Comcast anywhere, except in the Suncoast (Bradenton/Sarasota), they are so lucky.

Why would PBS air the olympics?
 
NBC overpaided for the Olympics and not only that, they are abusing it's coverage by tape delaying it, and being way too bias. i wonder how much better it would be if Disney/ESPN/ABC got the Olympics TV rights or CBS got the rights and shared it with Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting or Fox and their suite of channels, i'm sure Fox might be the best option once NBC realizes that they are paying way too much for the Olympics and can't make the American viewers happy.

plus if Fox had the Olympics TV rights in the US, i bet they replace the iconic Olympics theme with the NFL on Fox theme.
 
CBC Calls Entire Race Confusing Ryan Lochte For Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps just won his 22nd gold medal by dominating the field—which included his rival and countryman Ryan Lochte—in the 200 individual medley. Viewers in Canada, though, were led to believe Lochte led the race and that Phelps had fallen short. “Finally, he’s going to do it! Ryan Lochte is going to beat Michael Phelps in this event!”

Maybe they could bring back the "Olympics Triplecast" (1992 fiasco) with coverage spread out the three CSPAN channels (even though CSPAN3 is only on the digital tier in most areas, if offered at all).
 
it happened again, NBC's Olympics coverage had another wardrobe malfunction during the womens water polo between the US and Spain when the under water cam showed a battle which left one of the women in the pool got her swimsuit grabbed and pulled to the point to where a breast was exposed on live television.

i'm sure NBC's getting a FCC fine from it.

this wasn't the first time a women's water polo match had a wardrobe malfunction, as in 2012 during the summer games in London, 2 wardrobe malfunctions happen in 2 different water polo matches, one of which aired on NBC while the other aired aired on MSNBC.

So what? Malfunctions happen. This isn't Howard Stern. This is the ultimate world athletic competition, where stuff happens.

I don't watch CSPAN but I was surprised when we switched from COX to DIRECTV we went from 3 CSPANs to just 2.

The chance of NBC getting a fine for the recent incident described the message above depends on whether the FCC gets any complaints about it or not and whether the number of complaints would be enough for a fine to be issued or not (by the way, I had always found the phrases I had embolden in the message ridiculous).
