3/5 Hiring A New Meteorologist

Ftvlive.com is reporting that El Paso meteorologist Holly Bock is joining KTVK/KPHO. If I'm counting correctly, Bock will be their 8th meteorologist. I wonder if they are planning to do separate newscasts again.

Let the speculation begin!
However feeling bad for Ashlee DeMartino. Fired, only have 2 MET jobs open up in 18 months. And she won an Emmy with AZ Family.

Based on Holly's background as a weather anchor and reporter, I'm wondering if she is going to take over Kim Quintero's spot on weekend GMAZ. Perhaps Kim will move to weekdays, which could make sense if they re-start the CBS5 Morning News (or would it be CBS5 Mornings?) as a separate newscast. If they did, they could have an anchor team of Spencer Blake, Tess Rafols, and Kim Quintero (traffic and weather). @brian4, did you say that Tess was not in the new GMAZ promo (Jaime was there instaed).

Holly was doing news reporting tonight at 8 PM, not weather. Royal did weather.

The promo I referenced, Live Like a Local, features Pasmore, Fierro, Soto, and Cerreta. Traffic and weather are mentioned.

Another GMAZ promo, Woman Rushing Out of the House, has Pasmore, Fierro, Soto, Rafols, Maravilla, and Warnecke.

The newest We Will Do Anything for Family (sitting in a chair next to a table) has Pasmore, Fierro, Soto, Rafols, Maravilla, Warnecke, Gibson, Norman, McLaughlin, and Lee. Missing are Schwartz, Dillingham, Crites, and Horton.

I haven't seen the promos you're referring to, but hopefully the director told 'ol Pasmore not to smile. Whenever he does, it looks like he's literally passing gas. šŸ’©...😷

Let the speculation continue!

AZFamily has a new Weather Authority commercial with Warnecke, Norman, McLaughlin, Schwartz, and Horton, all standing together.

No Lauren Rainson. She is still on the website, but we know how accurate that can be.

BTW Lauren is good for saying "in the lower deserts" at least twice per forecast. I'm used to hearing about weather in the "High Country" but the lower deserts is new to me.

That newest promo picture was on one of the 3TV FB pages. Someone asked "Where is Lauren Rainson?" Lauren herself replied, "I wasn't invited."

Take that for whatever it's worth. Perhaps Lauren has a shorter-term contract and they are "testing" her out. I, too, noticed "the lower deserts" phrase. It reminded me of Sarah Walters (formerly of KPNX), who frequently said "the desert floor".

Actually, both/either are correct. "Lower Deserts" would apply to the Sonora Desert of AZ (versus the "high deserts" of the NE reservation lands). "Desert Floor", although not a common term would apply to the Colorado River Valley (lowest desert area in AZ).

And c'mon, isn't "Rainson" the perfect name for a wx forecaster?

In CA, the Low Desert is the Coachella and Imperial Valley area; High Desert is Victorville / Barstow area. It's interesting how each area has local terminology that outsiders don't always get.

My question: where is the Mogollon Rim?

The Mogollon Rim runs roughly from a bit west of Payson easterly to the New Mexico border. AZ Route 260 roughly follows the top of the range. But surely you knew that, right? ;)

Now, pronounce it. :) (It's MUGGY-own)

And the saga continues...

Gina Maravilla posted a picture on Facebook with the Weather and Traffic team. She used a hashtag First Alert Weather. I noticed this weekend on the 7 day forecast, it has First Alert in the upper right corner.

Standing with Gina was Norman, McLaughlin, Horton, Warnecke and Schwartz. No Holly Bock. Makes you wonder is Bock also on a "part time" deal?

The First Alert branding is no surprise. Gray owns the trademark and has been systematically rolling it out to all the former Meredith stations over the last few months.
