Jeff,

Of the 40 songs you copied and pasted, I recognized (and regularly listen to) 25 of them. It was a pretty eclectic list but, pretty much, right in my wheelhouse. So far KXT is putting a smile on my face. I think the morning announcer is a bit mundane (and I could do without the NPR news) but the music and lack of commercial inventory makes up for it.

Never was a big fan of the Zone. It seemed too female targeted. Not straight ahead Triple-A.

Was hoping KTX would be more like KGSR... so I'm a little disappointed. I'll keep listening, though. At least there' a music station in DFW now that gives me an excuse to pause my iPod now and then.

And, yes, the NPR news is completely unnecessary.

Final note: A Texas Triple-A should air Willie and Stevie Ray. Deep Jimi, too.

Also... more Elliott Smith, please.

Unfortunately, that is not kxt's playlist. That is from KGSR in Austin... kxt's playlist is much more obscure.

Jeff, here's KXT's 9:00 hour this morning (from kxt.org):

DEVENDRA BANHART
Baby

RAY DAVIES
Waterloo Sunset

THE DEATHRAY DAVIES
Stumble

THE KILLS
Cheap and Cheerful

MONSTERS OF FOLK
Say Please

BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS
Get Up Stand Up

DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
Am I The Same Girl

THE SADIES
The Creepy Butler (Instrumental)

THAO WITH THE GET DOWN STAY DOWN
Cool Yourself

ROLLING STONES
You Got The Silver

THE PIXIES
La La Love You

LISSIE
Little Lovin’

THE POLICE
Can’t Stand Losing You

THE NOISETTES
24 Hours

MUDDY WATERS
Mannish Boy

ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO
Sister Lost Soul

Ray Davies? Bob Marley? Dusty Springfield? Rolling Stones? The Pixies? The Police? Muddy Waters? All VERY well-known. Plus, a lot of the other artists are quite well-known in AAA/folk/indie rock circles (like Devendra Banhart, Monsters of Folk, Alejandro Escovedo, etc.). And there are some stellar new artists on there as well.

The point of a station like this is to open listeners' ears to great new artists and music, while treating them to great older songs by established artists as well. So far KXT is doing an excellent job of that, and filling a void long present in D/FW radio.

TEXAS Musicians, especially local Texas musicians should be featured.....

These are ones that I'd like to hear:

Shawn Phillips

Bugs Henderson

Point Blank

Butth@le Surfers

I don't want News Breaks..... or Stock Market Quotes or Traffic Reports....

I already know where I can get those in abundance.... I really really already know....

I just want MUSIC on KXT.

Is that too much to ask ? ? ? ?

I think a full service station would be just fine.

I think you might hear those on UnderCurrents or both the morning and afternoon shows.

FWIW, KKXT has got me listening to FM music radio again. It's now in my personal rotation along with KKDA (Soul 73) as well as KTCK and WBAP.

As a bonus, it's nice to see that the left side of the dial is no longer dominated by big-signaled rightwing evangelicals.

It's not as bad as I feared, but not as good as I hoped. I liked the Santana cut they opened with Monday morning. I was puzzled to hear Stills/Young 'Long May you Run' twice in two days. A lot of it has a harder edge than I care for. I hope they understand their mission is to inspire and entertain, and not to sell records and make hits.
I'm sure I'll hear something I like from time to time, but they'll have to share listening time with KTCU, KNTU, WRR, KLUV, KZPS KAAM and KCLE.

I still like it--the music is a breath of fresh air. According to Dan Slentz who works with Kera and KXT--He said the licensing fees & costs are too much at this time for HD. He does hope someday it will work though :)

Huh? 90.9 and 91.7 were the only Cedar Hill stations broadcasting anything close to religious programming. Plus, 90.9 does not really do politics. Why are you so hostile?

I also include the rimshots in my count. In the ``educational band'', here's the tally of those stations that have near-full market coverage with signals into core population centers and those that lock when doing a scan from northwest Dallas on a low-end car radio:

88.1 KNTU Jazz
89.3 KNON Variety
89.7 KVRK Christian
90.1 KERA News/Talk
90.5 KTXG Christian
90.9 KCBI Christian
91.3 KDKR Christian
91.7 KKXT AAA

So, of those eight stations, four (50%) are still Christian. Prior to the 91.7 flip, the majority of stations in the non-comm band were Christian.

Please don't mistake my preference for better balance of the radio facilities with hostility toward that format. Adding in both KLTY/94.9 and KWRD/100.7 in the commercial part of the band, I don't think that Christian-oriented radio on FM is under-represented in this part of the world.

You missed a couple:

88.5 KEOM Oldies
88.7 KTCU Variety

Just labeling the stations as "Christian" is like labeling KISS, The Wolf, and WRR all as "Music." KVRK and KCBI have very little in common as far as content and audience go. And certainly a far cry from your pejorative "big-signaled rightwing evangelicals."

Also, 40% hardly qualifies as domination by any definition I am aware of.

I opted omit those two (KEOM and KTCU) from the list of those in 88.1-91.9 mHz spectrum because they don't have full market coverage due to the directional patterns that each deploys to protect the other.

As for the other points about programming content, we'll just have to disagree lest this moves to a ``Take it Outside'' thread where hot-button issues such as the prosperity gospel, traditional hymns vs. Contemporary Christian music and Premillennial Dispensationalism as they relate to evangelism via electronic media are more apt.

Back to the radio issue. My rationale for lumping stations as diverse as KCBI and KVRK into the Christian category is that the vastly-different formats of, say, KLNO, KMVK and KTCY would all be considered Spanish to an English-only speaker.

Similarly I can readily detect the difference between KHYI vs. KSCS but to someone not aware of the nuances, they're just a couple of C&W stations. And the DailyKos crowd (and maybe even Dwight Yoakum) would just call them both hillbilly stations.

With all due respect Joe, if you pull out your Radiosoft, you will find that KEOM has vastly more ears inside of the 60 and 70 dBu contours than KTXG, KVRK and KDKR. Your criteria is totally inconsistent at best.

If you are going to including the awful rimshots then you should also include KEOM and KTCU.
