92.3 NOW - Chunky?

What happened last night? I saw this tweet from Buster:

"I had nothing to do with what @Chunky923NOW said. Please do me a favor and leave me out of your drama hoes. #downwithchunky #whocares"

So what happened? Did he insult Justin Bieber or something? ::)

No, all these people were calling in requesting 923 NOW to play songs by "All time low" and they got pissed. So Chunky went on air calling fans of All time low emo freaks. Chunky also made fun of the fans.

@RSto95 they called the All Time Low fans emo freaks and were making fun of us

@RSto95 they played like 2 seconds of it then made gun noises and pretended to shoot it down..

I don't understand why 92.3 NOW would get mad because people are requesting to play "All time low" songs? It would be better for the station rather than playing the same songs over and over.

If he's freaking out about "All Time Low", I can imagine if fans of "Big Time Rush" call in on his show.  ::)

Speaking of 92.3 Now, they are currently calling themselves 92.3 Gaga. This is in conjunction with a big publicity push for Lady Gaga's upcoming concerts.
Gimmicky station name changes like this seem seem relatively rare in this area.

In NYC, yes, but not for CBS Radio, they did something similar with Britney Spears with sister staqtion Hot 95.7 in Houston

Sheesh, those fans are so dramatic. Not only did this piss off fans in the tri-state, but I heard that fans that aren't even in the NYC metro (nor even in the US for that matter) are sending complaints to the station. Those fans should just live with the fact that All Time Low is an awful band.

And I thought Justin Bieber fans were worse...

Awesome. Then those fans are actually helping raise awareness for 92.3 Now, and this will likely result in more people actually tuning in to 92.3.

Clear Channel's CHR in Nashville, 107.5 The River, rebranded temporarily as "107.5 The Taylor" in anticipation of a Taylor Swift concert...

By the way... I'm sure Tictak would play All Time Rush or whatever those cats are called... ::)

Because the Programming Director at NOW FM (which happens to be the same Programming Director at sister station AMP Radio) DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM A STATION.

If I remember correctly, All Time Low DOES fit the Rhythmic contemporary format (one of their songs were played on yet ANOTHER sister station 97-1 AMP Radio in L.A.)...so for them to NOT play it is ridiculous.....

But then again, I'm not a Programming Director, I don't work at NOW or AMP, and the fact of the matter is playing the same songs over and over again by the same five or ten artists happens to be the norm for this format.

You speak like you don't work in radio at all. First, AMP Radio and NOW FM are in fact programmed by two different people. Second, the official title you are looking for is "Program Director". ;)

Wow Seattle... Great way to make your first post!

98.7 AMP Radio AND 92.3 Now FM both are ran by Dom Theodore(Program Director). Dom came from Clear Channel to CBS to be the PD of these 2 new stations. His former station happened to be Channel 955, which is now one of his competitors for 987 amp radio.

I'd say he knows well how to run a station. But like all of the CBS/Clear Channel stations they seem to be more limited to what they play. They just don't like to open their format so much, but not sure why. For example, these stations could be playing some of the top country songs or rock songs but they don't just because they lean to play the most popular pop/hip-hop songs. Thats why you hear the same songs twice within 2 hours at times.

Just for clarification since there's dueling posts about different radio stations/markets which could lead to confusion:

98.7 AMP Radio (WDZH) - Detroit, MI - CBS Radio - programmed by Dom Theodore
92.3 Now Radio (WXRK) - New York, NY - CBS Radio - programmed by Dom Theodore

97.1 AMP Radio (KAMP) - Los Angeles, CA - CBS Radio - programmed by Kevin Weatherly (also programs KROQ L.A.)

95.5 Channel 95.5 (WKQI) - Detroit, MI - Clear Channel - formerly programmed by Dom Theodore (now programmed by Sharon Dastur, Z100 NYC PD)

92.3 Now, KAMP, and AMP in Detroit are Rhythmic stations, with playlists based off the Rhythmic chart - for whatever reason (I think marketing, but not sure), CBS likes to have them report to the mainstream CHR panel, but there's no way they're gonna add country or rock songs (they won't even play #1 songs by Pink)...they're offering a rhythmic music selection with CHR-type imaging in markets where rhythmic music is huge

Now or Z should play All Time Low. Why not? They're a Top 40/Pop/Punk band hell Kiss FM Seattle plays them! I get that Now's rhythmic but they did play Neon Trees Animal they added Rolling in the deep by Adele. so they can play it. it's not like it's that hard. and they did play All american rejects too. so yea no excuses big jerks. they're a decent band atl. not knocking them but they should apologize and play it or make it up to them.

92.3 Now always seemed to have a Rhythmic lean since they launched. After launched they seemed to shift more towards a true Top 40. I don't monitor them for a while. I check them out now they do seem to be ALMOST a full blown Rhythmic station they still Spinkle in Some Pop

Like Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me (w/ Big Sean)
Tinie Tempah - Written In The Stars
Afrojack - Take Over Control

But it is very few and far between

Pjc , Mike McCoy is the current Program director of Channel 955. He took over I beleive in August 2009.

Also I have heard stations like Now,Amp, and 955 play taylor swift songs in the past. BUT they all are edited so they don't have the country feeling to them. Like the instrumental isn't the same.

Now and both Amps have moved way to the Rhythmic side in the last few months (to the point of mirroring the Rhythmic chart), so you're definitely not gonna hear them play Taylor Swift at this point

Channel 955 is a different story - they're a Clear Channel, and they do add pop/rock stuff (usually into very low rotation, but still)

Maybe if it was 4 years ago. No one cares about Pop-Punk anymore- people figured out that all of the artists are just a bunch of Fall Out Boy clones. Only Seattle and Sirius/XM still give the genre any play. In 2011, you're probably going to get more listeners by dissing the genre than by actually playing it, especially in NYC.
