92.3 WGST

According to the FCC W222AF is only going up to 99W, not the full translator 250W.  It has a nasty null alright, pretty much comprising the I-85 north and US 78 east corridors and everything between (including Between).  Is this to protect WMOQ in Bostwick (Social Circle)?

Are they at the full 99W right now, or only doing half power?

I couldn't pick the station up AT ALL in Duluth, and only with a lot of interference in the northern part of Johns Creek.

The Suwanee 93.5 translator (moving in from further out) has an interesting choice of city of license, as the translator barely covers Suwanee over its (slight) null. This would work nicely as a companion to 105.3. It probably would leave too much of a gap to work with 92.3.

There are a couple of apps for 7 and 10W Stone Mountain translators on 94.5, but there is already a 120W one in Social Circle that is applying to move to the Conyers area and up to 150W that would seem to preclude them. This would work well with 105.7.

Thank God a 200-watt (or so) translator will actually help WGST's nighttime coverage.

Ahh...I remember the glory days of working nights and being able to listen to Art Bell without having to be cautious where I stood or sat.

WGST 640 is NEW at 92.3 FM. They aren't "Now" at 92.3

Real WGST Simulcast

I think CC should simulcast WGST on a real channel. Here in Cumming, 92.3 is DEAD!

This is the order that I think are most probable to switch to WGST (in order of most likely to least likely):

105.3 Who the heck even listens?

96.7 They could end the WWVA/WWLG simulcast and put WGST on this south skewing station.

96.1 Not very well put together station. Much better when they were 96 Rock. They need to be more alternative (similar to a WEND in Charlotte.)

105.7 Though they currently have worse ratings than Project, I think CC has faith in WiLD. (But who goes from the Empire State of Mind Remix to Someone Like You?)

94.1 Their best station overall, IMO best country station in Atlanta.

Alternative is barely holding on as a commercially viable format, its fans ought to be happy to have 99x. Rock does not do so hot in PPM and alternative does not increase revenue.

105.3 must have spanish speaking following. I heard its similar to gospel in being hard to make money despite popularity.
This 92.3 signal is not going to help GST.

I might be wrong, but I swore over the weekend it said now, because I also transcribed "also on" and now (no pun intended) it's "at".

"Now also on 92.3FM"

Cool, first time in nearly twenty years in Atlanta the words "Power" and "99" were used in the same sentence in regards to radio.

1. Who the heck even listened when they were "Real Radio 105.3"?

2. Been there, done that.

It did say "NOW" on Sunday. WGST probably changed it to "NEW" so as to not confuse folks that were tuning into WSB. Though, it doesn't help those who are looking for the "NEW" River! :D ;D ::)

So, back in the 90s, WGST beat WSB in the ratings for about an hour. They blamed the poorer signal for not being able to sustain that slim lead.

Jump to 2011 and WGST goes FM, just like WSB. Oh, but wait -- WSB's FM is on a class C1 at 40kw and 1500 feet. WGST's FM is 99w at 860 feet (after the upgrade) on a signal that will likely gets interference from a 100kw station in Chattanooga.

I guess they really have just thrown in the towel.

Good luck with that whopping signal, CC. It will mean NOTHING

A translator, particularly a 99W (vs. 250W) one with a Hugh Jass null, won't cut it against WSBB.

If the null was removed, I still don't think it would reach Suwanee or Lawrenceville. It needs more height above ground level to do that. A .099 kW 99.1 reached out here, even with a strong 99.3 WCON behind it, because it was higher up the stick.

You are wrong.. Sunday i listened and never heard "NOW" only "NEW" not sure where you go that from. im sure they wanted to be different from wsb . I'm going to defense of wgst, ive been a long time listner back to the Kimmer days (bring back the kimmer!!!!) . Wgst has had some good and bad decicions made. Every radio station makes those. In this town according to most people Am 750 and NOW at 955 News Talk .. blah blah wsb can do no wrong ???. Ill give WGST credit, atleast they have a live morning show and afternoon show now--(better than syndicated like it was several months ago). which i think is alot better than Boortz and god knows that Snooze fest Clark Howard. Hanity is ok, but just like all the other shows.. same ole same ole crap. It truly amazes me no matter what happens at wgst.. there is always something negative said , everyone wanted local shows.. they gave you that.. still bitch and complain... wanted a fm signal.. same deal bitch and complain... ( yeah the signal isnt great but atleast they are trying) if they were to put wgst on 96.1 or 105.3 it would be the same ole bitch and complain session. if i dont like a station I dont Listen.. simple as that.. I would love to see some of the so called "experts" on here take a stab at any station in Atlanta and see if they can do a better job... The suits at Clear channel really dont care what the few people on here say about their radio stations. I do agree that wgst could do better..but every radio station in atlanta could do better..

Thanks for posting anonymous WGST staffer.

Welcome to the ATL board! In order:

1) The "NEW" meme was from Cox station "The NEW 97.1 The River"...which was so dubbed for about 5 YEARS after flipping to the format.

2) Cox in general and WSB in particular have taken their share of lumps on this board, from just about everyone except Caller10 (at least in the case of B98.5, who is always awarding swag to caller 10) and maybe Craig Ashwood. "Fox 97...good times and eight oldies!"..."B98.5...Atlanta's #1 Choice For Listening While You Work (says who?)"...stealing Martha Zoller from WDUN...heck, stealing Boortz from WGST...Cox running articles in the AJC complaining about "hate radio" at WGST because they couldn't make progtalk work on WSB...etc. Nobody from CC should feel so pregnant.

Rusty Humphries is a good show. WGST's AM drive show sucks, sorry. WGST used to be on 105.7 back in the Jacor days and nobody can figure out why that can't be done again.

You have to wonder how long Clear Channel will tolerate being in a top 10 marklet with multiple good signals and the best they can do is #12 12+. Sooner or later they'll have to throw some resources at Atlanta. This performance wouldn't have been tolerated in The Days of the Mays.
