94.5 FM Format Flip in Birmingham!

Maybe with 94.5 coming on the scene at least "New Country 97.3" will finally leave the stage sometime in the future.

These were my first thoughts upon reading this thread. Assuming Citadel is in it for the long haul with WYSF, will be one station going away, and it'll be WNCB 97.3.

If you heard a woman on there then she has been on there for at least a couple of weeks.

I found this thread on the Birmingham al.com forums about the WYSF format change. Seems there aren't a whole lotta folks happy with the country music emanating out of their radios on 94.5 FM. Interesting sidenote: Whoever started the thread referred to the station as "Soft Rock 94.5" rather than just 94.5 FM or the "New 94.5"; and no one else commenting on the thread told them any differently. ::) WYSF hasn't used the "Soft Rock" moniker in quite a while, for several years now. Guess the "Y-94.5" name didn't stick, either. That's probably not a good sign if the listeners are not even aware the name of the station has been changed two times since then.

Here's the link to the al.com forum. Once you get there, you'll have to select topic #24193.

Now that the holiday weekend is over, anyone think the new format (country or otherwise) will finally be unveiled sometime on Monday?

Not many folks at al.com must care about WYSF - they're talking about gospel now. ::)

(It's neither here nor there, but I gotta say it somewhere: those al.com forums are the worst looking, clunkiest things to hit the internet since, well, ever!)

Anyone out the door?

Until the format is revealed, I guess the question becomes one of personnel fallout. Hate to see anyone lose a gig, but with Farid coming in to spark the changes some other shoes are about to drop.

In this morning's issue of Taylor on radio-info, there was a story about WYSF, where they were speculating WYSF would be going CHR. They did an online search last night and came up with a logo with "The New 94.5 FM, Birmingham's hit music station" on it. I don't know if that's what they're basing their thinking in regards to a CHR format, but isn't that the current logo WYSF has been using? I haven't been to their website a whole lot in the past, but it looks as though it's the same one. Since we can't post images on here anymore (or at least I think it's still disabled on radio-info), it's the logo that the alabamamediabuzz page has been using with the WYSF story.

This is crap!!! I was hoping it was just a freak accident but it looks like we have yet another country station in Birmingham. I think the worst part is, I fell in love with the morning show, Kidd Kraddick in the morning. I hope this does not last much longer because I can't take the country music all day every day and 103.7 just gets old after the 1st hour. I think I would be okay with the country as long as they brought back my morning show! :-\

As of this morning they've started relaying WJOX-100.5 (in stereo). Now the next question to be answered is will Jox move down the dial to 94.5?

Im in east alabama, only pick up atlanta stations....... they have 2 country stattions and 1 classic country which is good, but the BULL 949 sucks a big spoon. The Bull will be off by the end of the year? Does anyone know what ever happend to Jeff Morrow, used to be on some stations in east alabama.

Wow Just what we don't need another Country station.

Personally I would love to see them come back as the old I95 and go head to head with the Q.

Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as the Q has been moved to Birmingham I don't think they have ever had

another CHR go head to head with them.

They need the old WAPI call letters back...you're right. At least they could go for a demo
that brings in income. Maybe they will launch this Plat-numb (sp??) format to go after
the incredible WMJJ. Then they could fight for playing the absolute worst music in B-ham
AND get ratings. I don't know how Magic does it. It's almost Christmas time anyway.

I thought at one time or another that 97.3 was CHR.
