94.7 Updates

The kind of stunt (if Cumulus does one) will likely depend on the format they decide to use on 94.7.

I see two possible formats: Active rock and country.

If the new 94.7 format is the former, I could see a continuous loop for a day of two of "For Those About To Rock, We Salute You!", or if country, "God Bless The U.S.A.".

How do they get the audio from the Cumulus studios to the transmitter on short notice? I was thinking about that today. They cannot put in an STL in advance since they don't own the station is are not doing an LMA. Maybe they went ahead and ordered a T1 or an internet service.

Well if they plan to go country does anyone known if that Nash FM network is even ready to go yet? According to the article the sale is not actually completed yet.

I hope its rock because with RXP 2.0 those ratings prove that alternative rock can work in nyc if done right. they own WRRV in Middletown which is excellent in the ratings and in sussex county where 94.7's signal covers as well as other NYC stations which can work well. I do not know how well country would do if they moved it towards the city.I couldn't see it being profitable for Cumulus.

Approval of the sale and the actual closing on the station are two different things. Could be days, weeks, months before you hear anything.

Getting audio to the transmitter site is no big deal. A T1 could have been ordered, internet could be a possibility, there's even a licensed RPU for the station that could be used in a pinch.

Yes, yes whe hear you. You want rock but that's NOT likely gonna happen. Country it is...

There is apparently still one application remaining for the FCC to approve. Family Radio filed a request about three weeks ago to program WDVY 106.3 (the station Cumulus will be turning over to them as part of the deal for WFME) out of studios in California. There is also a request to change the station to non-commercial status.
This could still take a few weeks to get the nod from the FCC. It seems highly unlikely that Family Radio will close on the sale till they can continue their programming on WDVY.

If they do active rock, they'd have to compete against 105.5, which gets pretty high ratings in north Jersey. I really can't see them wanting to do that. If they go rock, it should be alternative.

so is this correct wfme wouldn't be stunting.
until the deal is closed?

Correct, they can't do stunting on a station they don't own. They don't own it until the deal officially closes. Besides, there is no guarantee they will do stunting anyway.

The FCC has approved the Cumulus purchase of WFME as of Yesterday 1/4.

The approval was to transfer the license. That does not mean that money has changed hands, final sale documents signed, etc. The keys are not handed over just because the FCC has approved the transfer of a license. That transfer is conditional on the "closing of the sale".

That's just standard business procedure/noise. The regulatory hurdle is the one that matters and what holds up everything else, you know that. Not sure why you're acting to the contrary.

Point being that given the size of the purchase price and the number of lawyers that are involved, it can take a few days to close on the deal. Some here are expecting a change this weekend. Also, the sale could be delayed on purpose for whatever reason ether company has.

[Note-content removed per TOS.]

They may not officially own the station yet. The FCC approves the transfer of a license conditional on the deal being consummated. Since it was approved Friday, and $40 million is involved, I am sure the deal is not consummated yet. Also, either of the two companies involved can slow down the consummation of the deal for whatever reason either party might have.

That's a fair point, but realistically since this has already taken some time, any lawyer worth their salt would have had most of that drawn up already in advance. Either way it will take time.

If I put my comment on those 'some here' (probably most...but) mods will delete it, but very fair point. Some act like it should have happened 3 months ago already.... ;D

Very true. I (personally) expect it will be another month yet at least. I'm certainly not waiting on it, it'll just happen when it does. Cheers.
