The Physicians' Radio Network graduates out of SCA-land, eh?

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

The gimmick plays on this morning....

"Help out the Big Show!
We're still looking for suggestions for the new radio station we're running on 94.7 FM in NYC. County and Modern Rock are getting a lot of love. What ya think?"

Has anyone noticed WPLJ is playing the same songs over and over? More so than usual. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but something is odd about that. How many times does one need to hear "A-Team" by Ed Sheeran? Just one example of course.

Yup. On Scott and Todd yesterday one of them joked about an all Ed Sheeran format for 94.7. LOL

Radio-Locator now lists 94.7 as Alternative....Still think it's a "bluff". Cumulus wouldn't make it that obvious. My money is still on country ultimately. But that would make "sense" so there's still some skepticism!

Why don't they just cater to everyone and tweak WPLJ more in an Alternative direction and do Country on 94.7? Yes the ALT Rockers would complain it is watered down, but something is better than nothing. Pull the Pop out of WPLJ and move forward. It might give them a nice ratings jolt.

Yeah, if you click the link for WRXP on there it takes you to a page that references 101.9.

It really would not be much of an effort considering today's alternative is very popish. I have heard almost half of the current alternative chart toppers on PLJ already. Oddly Muse which has been at #1 for 14 weeks with a pleasant song on the softer side they ignore.

It would seem to be the best way to go. Leave the Pop to 92.3 and Z-100. How about take it a step further and have Scott and Todd do mornings on the Country station? Then bring someone more associated with alternative in to do mornings on WPLJ.

Huh? WPLJ is one of the most successful Cumulus stations. Why would they consider messing that up?
Flip PLJ to alternative? Good stuff!! That move would make Merlin Media look like a bunch of geniuses!!

I agree. PLJ to Alternative would be the worst decision Cumulus has ever made. They could just watch all of the billing from their soccer mom audience vanish. Remember, the key to radio is billing, not making sure everyone's niche is covered.

It wouldn't be going full blown Alternative. Call it Modern AC/Hot AC...whatever you wish. All they would be playing would be more of the safest Alternative Hits. Just pull the pop repetition from the playlist. Think of Radio 104.5 in Philly as an example. The station will still bill well. It always has no matter what tweaks have been made since Scott Shannon took over. Or simply take WPLJ back to a Top 40 presentation. The current mix just makes the station stale.

I am surprised there is no leak. At this point you would think they would have hired some people.

I also wonder why there is still no info leaked. Maybe they start jockless for a while.

It is really not that much of a stretch if you listened to and looked at the Alternative charts this year and last. PLJ is already playing quite a few currents that either made it very high on the Alternative charts last year or are still on the charts.

this thread reminds me of an early "Simpsons" episode:

bart and lisa..."are we there yet?"
homer..."NO!"

repeat for 48 pages

BTW...I'm as guilty as anyone...I keep checking for updates, too.

I, too, also wonder and am surprised by the lack of any leak. Also, I hear they are still shadowcasting PLJ and Scott and Todd made more references to the eventual flip on their show today. Looks like it still could be alternative, considering these recently appropriated WRXP Call Letters. But you know what, I think it might just be a stunt. It could go country, considering the void left by WYNY about a dozen-plus years ago…

Hey, has anyone heard anything yet?

Oh, all this stuff has been mentioned on this very same thread ad nauseum? I really don't care/feel like reading 48 pages because I want people to think I'm smart and involved. So I'll just keep repeating the same things other people have said.

… God, I hope nobody took that seriously...

Or, how about if they put Alternative on WABC, conservative Talk on 94.7, Country on 'PLJ, and move the Hot AC soccer moms up-river to WRRV? Ha, ha, ha....how many different permutations will we anxious "armchair programmers" come up with??
