94.7 Updates

I think it's pretty incredible that there are no credible leaks about what the new format will be less than 24 hours before go-time.

No matter what the format is everyone will claim to have "known it all along" but Right in this moment none of us do.

As for the wheel of formats, they haven't had a classical loop so I am not convinced that the lack of a genre from the wheel indicates that it IS the format because no one is expecying classical.

I looked at Cumulus' list of radio stations and what i learned from it is that they are not alternative/modern rock friendly. and so though i am hoping for the return of RXP I would be shocked if it ends up happening.

No matter what happens, my hat is off to Cumulus for keeping this under wraps, especially considering social media and constant online chatter. Somehow they kept this a secret and that is amazing!

... don't expect the format to be spoken word, Sports or Talk (WABCsimulcast)...why kick-off a format in the middle of a talk segment? (9:47am)...and everything I've seen indicates CBS Sports is destined for 660 AM eventually...

True:
http://sportsrantz.com/media/2013/01/10/cbs-sports-radio-will-gradually-take-over-66-wfan/

... but with the Nash FM domain registration and the WRXP callsign being used, what are the odds that this is just talk from Dan Mason in the end?

You know, it's true: few are predicting all-news on 94.7. And let's not forget that Cumulus just launched an all-news format on FM not too long ago and it seems to be doing well.

Plus, imagine the marketing possibilities with 77 WABC.

Watch the eventual format be spoken word after this "wheel of formats" ruse, I will LMAO - well, I'll rejoice, since it's another spoken word format on FM, but after all the ruses that Cumulus pulled on us between the call letters, the "nash" domain and the music format wheel, I will LMAO...

I think this "format wheel" thing they're doing all weekend is pointless. Especially since they already announced the exact time of the new station launch. Nobody is going to sit there all weekend and listen to a loop of random formats. Why not just "spin the wheel" and debut the new format last Friday at 5pm instead of going into this stunt. I could have been listening to the new station all weekend. Instead I know there is no reason to tune in until Monday. Just seems like a waste to me.

It's GONNA be country. We don't need another news/talker on FM, because you can easily tune to 77 WABC and get news/talk. Nash FM all the way - help these NYC listeners who are out of country music!

It will be interesting to see who the airstaff will consist of. Cumulus has alot of talent at many of it's other Country stations who can give this a fresh approach. Maybe one or two local legends would be nice as well, but I guess we'll see.

You mean the NYC listeners that have long since tuned out terrestrial radio in NYC by now and have invested in satellite radio or other means of enjoying their favorite format?

I wonder if this new station start with a full line up or start jock-less for a period of time. If they start Nash FM, maybe they have a line up of jocks.

The point is to generate buzz and perhaps put on the finishing touches for the new format.

@Ansky212: It's not like it's taken Cumulus a lot of effort to put this format wheel stunt together, if a large portion of it is a byproduct of past stunts at sister radio stations. And let's not forget, part of the reason this stunt is also being done: awareness of the 94.7 FM signal - or, I should say, positive awareness that it exists (no thanks to the "end of the world" predictions a couple of years ago)...

If the station goes country, which I think it will; I do hope we see a fresh, fun and upbeat station. Kind of like KKWF in Seattle, or what KUPL in Portland was up until last week. Both are very personality driven and the imaging is killer. Jack Murphy John Willyard and Ann Dewigg are the stations voices. The playlists also lean very current based. I think KKWF in Seattle plays maybe two gold songs an hour.

If anything, I do hope this Nash-FM branding is just to toy with everyone. It sounds terrible and just plain cheesy. I'm guessing Jan Jefferies came up with the name himself.

This is nothing compared to the buzz that will be generated by actually doing the format.

Outside of this board, I've been refusing to play their game. So far, I've only suggested to two people that "it might be country," and that was only last night. (No one has mentioned it to me.)

And I'm not going to post even so much as a hint of this on Facebook or send any emails about it until it becomes official, and there's an active website or news story to link to. (Assuming they pick country, which despite everyone's certainty one way or another--we still don't know).

But Cumulus owns a lot of talk programming they can't clear in NYC which is why I think they bought 94.7

Then why have they spent a week adjusting the equipment to make music sound better? That would be one hell of a misdirect only to put Mike Huckabee on the air! All due respect to the Huckmeister (I do like his TV show), but I don't think he has the demographics they're going for.

Gone from RDS is WRXP FM and Rock... Just says listen Monday at 9:47am! Stunting now says tomorrow instead of Monday. New Scott and Todd drops reference a new music format they won't really control. It absolutely won't be a talk format... Vince should start his letter.... (friendly joshing)

I guess they start giving hints until tomorrow morning, this is the first one.

They haven't bought any other stations in recent memory.

Really? They've been buying and trading stations in lots of markets including Peoria and Mobile, but they've kept the original formats.

What makes this unusual is it's a blank slate. They're taking a station that has been one of the empty frequencies, one that hasn't been on a lot of people's pre-sets, and taking it mainstream.

They have lots of agendas, and when it comes to WABC, a huge unfinished job. If they're just looking for an in-market clear for their programming, this is where it's gone. This is where the 3rd tier talk and brokered stuff goes. I doubt very much they want to move that from WABC to a new FM. Mainly because they apparently don't have a better plan for WABC.

Most people in NYC have no idea there will be a new format on the radio tomorrow moreover will they really care. It's mostly us that get entralled.
New York isn't such a huge radio city anyway given most commute by public transport.

I continue to see Myths posted on here regarding Cumulus and the soon to be launched 94.7. Myths vs fact 1) Country is a hard sale, total myth country no longer is a hard sell, in fact it is an easier sell than alternative, in fact it does Top Billing in many markets because it attracts both Male and Female listeners 2) Country would hurt PLJ, not so. The Hot AC/Country alliance is pretty common amongst Clusters these days, The country format is attractive because it attracts nearly 50/50 split Male/Female so it makes it an attractive buy! 3) Country is an older demo format. Myth as well Country does well in the coveted 25-54 numbers and 18-34 demos as well, hence the recent article in Inside Radio 4) Final Myth country listeners don't have disposable incomes, again a Myth, Country is near the Top of those with money to spend. Combine this with the national sales for the Nash Format and it all makes sense
It indeed looks pretty Official,COUNTRY IS INDEED THE NEW FORMAT for 94.7 just saw an article on Radio Insight that pretty much confirms it!

Well who is right??? The Postman??? with Sports Talk from CBS??? OR The Dentist (boy would he love to give me a painful root canal LOL) Hey Dentists scare me I have not been to one in 3 years and better get to one soon...But is his prediction on country correct???? I say The Dentist will likely be right or I will be with the rock format. I have a rock feeling still for this station --- I say its about a 40 % chance - Country is also a 40 % chance -- CBS Sports a 10 % chance maybe --- other formats combined a 10 % chance....I am anxious now...

If it's country and given the national brand Nash, I would assume it'll be lots of syndication.

Not necessarily. "Jack-FM" was a brand, but the actual content wasn't syndicated. Likewise with the stations that call themselves "Cat Country."
