Sort of like the Top 5 from years in the late 70s, 80s, and early to mid-90s. I'm sure they'll expand their sound more in the months to come.

Based on what Clear Channel is doing in Phoenix at KYOT, don't get your hopes up.

Well, whatever they're doing right now, I like it. I heard some surprising songs that I haven't heard on radio in a long time. Expose - Come Go With me, Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait, and Young MC - Bust a Move.

Now that Magic 92.5 seems to be exclusively "Cholo Old School Music" with 60's/70's R&B tunes you'd expect to see on a low-power AM in Detroit (or at least, every single time I tune in), I'm glad that someone else is picking up Old School Dance/R&B format.

If memory serves, this signal (on it's format merry-go-round) had the same format about 10 years ago?

And right when they were starting to make inroads, the then owner flipped it to Country?

The full history of this signal is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KOGO-FM

And that's precisely why I roll my eyes at the format. Maybe it's because I lived in a city that had an 80's format for 11 years, but the novelty of hearing those songs on the radio again faded for me years ago. And having had those songs pounded down my throat for so long, the novelty will wear off fairly soon. That may be why Magic moved away from those titles years ago and has settled on Art Laboe's greatest hits.

Magic sounds like it's programmed by someone who lives in Southern California. Kiss sounds like it's imported from somewhere else. Both will get cume.

Well Magic is programmed by R Dub. I thought he moved to Brazil a few years ago after he departed from KHHT in Los Angeles. I don't expect that much from KISS. Maybe they'll hire 2 local dj's but you expect to hear the same jocks from KISQ, KHHT, KHYL KOCN and KQOD on this station.

It is my understanding that Tracy Johnson (formerly of Q106 and KFMB-FM) is the programming consultant for the LMA stations 92.5, 90.3, and 91.1. So I would assume that he is the one truly programming the stations and guiding their direction.

Well, after a few weeks of off-and-on listening, I conclude that this is yet another "iPod with RF" station. Halfway interesting music selection, but the automated nature and no-personality presentation makes it the modern-day equivalent of a '60s Beautiful Music FM -- great for background music at the local Sunglass Hut, but surely not for much else.
