Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why The Ranch has http://www.kyhi.com/ as a registered domain name that points to their website?

Don't know, but it was registered a little more than four years ago (February 2004).

I'd bet it's simply to take advantage of anyone typing too fast who might be looking for KHYI (The Range.) Just like the morons who take domain names like "goggle.com" or "yhoo.com" or "radio-nympho.com" (ok, maybe not the last one) who hope for dyslexic folks or fast typists to mess up on their destination name.

whitehouse.com instead of whitehouse.gov....

Dont EVER do that on a company's network that logs security violations!!!!

radio-nympho??? Ive met a few of them......(wait you mean there's a web site for them?? :)

Oh hell it's a club, and they all carry the American Nymphoess card.

Andy

How can 95.7 be in Dallas? KBGO in Waco is oldies, and only ~80mi away. Same for 102.5 that is KBRQ which is a rock station, in fact both are in a CC cluster here in Waco.

DFW 102.5 is a low power translator! NOT a full service FM.....the full service FM is NORTH of Dallas and barely a rimshot....its properly spaced from WACO (besides 102.9 would prevent a FS 102.5 in Dallas.....I LOVE it though how the idiots at the FCC require LPFM to be 3rd channel adj but allow 2nd ch HIGHER power TRANSLATORS to exist next door...I know of one that is on the same tower somewhere...2 channels down!!!! at 250watts and 300ft and the other station is a full C on the tower...AHHHH aint hypocracy grand???) 95.7 KFWR is also properly spaced and is NW of FTW...check it out before blurting such things....As long as the 1mV contours dont touch, (and some cases it IS allowed) they are just fine...

Not sure what your post is referencing...there isn't a 95.7 in Dallas or one coming. KFWR is staying on 95.9, but attempting to upgrade from a class C1 licensed to Mineral Wells to C0 licensed to Jacksboro.

Current coverage:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM610546.html

Proposed coverage (there are two apps for Jacksboro 95.9 filed by them -- assume the one with better Fort Worth coverage is the one they want):

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1236758.html
http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1242354.html

The 102.5 Dallas signal is a low power translator off KDBN 93.3's tower off Loop 12 north off I-30 in western Dallas County: http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FX1227866.html. It is well outside KBRQ's contour: http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM581276.html. It won't be part of the CC cluster...CC will divest it as part of going private since it owns to many stations in the Waco market under the current rules.

i thought someone was referring to 95.7, not that it matters to me... But I did know that 102.5 was to a station here in Waco. Anyways, I do appreciate your help in clarifying this to me..

Yeah, they're saying, "Texas or Top 40; you decide" and giving their phone number. Then they're playing calls (for Texas, of course) in between songs.

I hope they're actually going to DO something different tomorrow... getting your listeners to call in and say they love you is a pretty lame "revolution"...

Same crap works for Jack-FM, I guess. ::)

Having worked for them, my prediction is that They will go back to playing mostly Texas Music and now that Dingo is gone, Mike Crow will move over from Legends to host mornings on the Ranch. We'll know for sure Thurs if I'm right.

Who said Dingo is gone? Was that in the trades ? Missed that one.

They will go top 40 and Mike Crow has to be moving over. Dave Dumas is now doing mornings at the legends and some guy named Sam is taking over Dumas time slot...... I hope they leave 92.1 alone, they play great music when you need a change from the same old new crap...

The Ranch needs top 40, Texas country has come and gone...

What amazes me is that this post has nearly 2,500 views. If 95.9 could just get that many listeners at once, well...

Ever looked at their owner LKCM's corporate structure? http://www.lkcm.com/html/professionals.html . An unbelievable amount of juveniles on the board. Sorry, but I just couldn't see letting someone born in 1981 be on my Board of Directors. Maybe I'm just getting old or something. Now which one of the guys on the board has the girlfriend who doesn't like female singers, and that's the reason why The Ranch won't play any?

As I said, I used to work there, I still have ways of knowing some things. He's gone and for reasons that you wouldn't want to mention in the trades.

With the signal they have, it would be a mistake to go Top 40! They need to remain with a niche format to survive otherwise listeners have too many other choices with stronger signals.

You are making waaaaay too much sense. The smaller towns from FW on west are the Ranch's bread & buuter. I really doubt flipping to top 40 will get them any more butter than the Texas country.

What happened to Dingo??? I was so glad to hear him on The Ranch after leaving the wolf. The Ranch needs to get Justin Frazzel to come on board to dj and do traffic, not that I dont like Ron Moore.

Are you crazy?? It is one of the most popular formats especially for the college age kids. People are getting tired of the same ol pop country crap.
