96.7 K-Love Signing On Very Soon

Isn't K-Love Based in Angwin California near Napa California or Sonoma or Sacramento. This is the Same K-Love that had their flagship stations flipped to KDFC 89.9 Classical music from KNDL and KZCT Ozcat 89.5 fm in Vallejo.

KLOVE is based in Cali, not sure where tho. They are a network of stations all around the country and they play Contemporary Christian Music 24/7. The only annoying thing is their pledge drive which is in April and October for about two weeks but what do you expect from a listenier-supported station?

You are thinking of the former KNDL, which also played Christian music (and a few ministry programs) and served the Santa Rosa market. They were not owned or affiliated with EMF (parent of K-Love), however, Santa Rosa is also the market where K-Love started.

Is K-Love basically the same format as Star 99.1 in NJ?

Yes, very similar. Just trade the hourly commercials for 3 pledge drives per year.

The on-air talent at K-Love is overall very good (although obviously not local). I would also say that L-Love has a very upbeat, commercial-like presentation.

While the F.C.C. has approved a License to Cover for the New Rochelle transmitter site, they evidently have not yet licensed K-Love owner EMF to operate the station, as a non-profit.
So with WCTZ shut down, there may be just static on 96.7 for a while, as EMF waits for F.C.C. approval. I believe that till then, 96.7 is still technically licensed to Cox and WCTZ.
I do not see anything on the K Love website that would indicate when they expect to be on the air in New York.

They also involve their listeners in the programming in a very compelling and down-to-Earth way. That, IMHO, is their best attribute. 2'nd best are the on-air people, themselves.

Their worst attributes are that they play the same 30 songs over and over, and that they are not local. (When you hear the SAME SONGS every 3 hours, that is total overkill.)

I wonder if WKLV-K-Love will try to get the pirate shutdown on 96.7.

Hey, it worked for Thunder Country... I'm sure EMF might put the fear of God (pun intended) into pirates interfering with their signal, too! :D

Good point Barry. The bad thing about that is we could be waiting MONTHS before it finally signs on.

Wow, once every 3 hours is pretty good compared to most NY radio stations. Put on Z100 and you'll hear the same song sometimes more than once per hour! ::)

I would imagine that since this is the stream for K-Love's Los Angeles station...

... this should be the one for WKLV in New York:

Let us know if it - or more importantly, the 96.7 frequency - is working.

The "KLVE" Los Angeles link above is for the Spanish Language Soft AC station KLVE-FM-107.5 owned by Univision, a place that David Eduardo would be ultra-familiar with. It is not affiliated with the Contemporary Christian "K-Love".

The "K-Love" streaming audio link should be the same in every market being as it's a national format. The choices:

http://www.klove.com/listen/player.aspx (media player)  128 kbps, 44.1 khz

High quality streams:

@Musicradio: Not unless they're required by the FCC to do so...

@PJC: My bad, thanks for clearing it up and getting on the stream URL's for us.

Point well taken... but I'm not a fan of stepping into a thread going on its sixth page just to say the subject matter is "not even worth the discussion". ::) You're right, though - the majority of people in the area will likely pay no mind... maybe a few radio geeks here and there in the first week of operations, but that's about it...

DToTheJ- Yeah, I deserve a noodle slapping for the post. I just can't believe an action that has taken a useful frequency and rendered it nothing more than a tax deduction is worthy of any discussion other than another station that in many forms was a nice listen (WJAZ, Kool, or Coast) bites the dust.

You can get a .3 or .4 just by being on air with a little luck in diary placement. These stations are what they are and thats okay. But lets not pitch this stuff as a new revelation to radio that will rival WKTU in the heyday. That sounds as credibility busting as the world ending this weekend.

But just in case, I am not mailing my mortgage payment until Monday. :)

The last song that was played on the Coast was the Beatles goodnight.
Than we ran a bunch of jingles back to back from the old days. Than legal ID than I dumped the transmitter.

Ed, do you know why Cox decided to pull WCTZ off the air before K Love was ready to start transmitting? Apparently we will have nothing but static on 96.7 for quite a while.

There are no diaries in the New York MSA.

Ed, i wish I could have been there with you, mike and the crew when you did it. I hope you are doing well.
As for 96.7 in old greenwich I decided to go down to greenwich point. I am getting so many radio stations coming on and out on 96.7. I have not been able to Identify one yet. It seems there is so much meteor/airplane skip going on however, i am getting a pirate which seems to fade in and out the most with "carribean" music when no otheres are fading in and out only down here on the water (long island sound)
