96.7 The Ticket?

104.1 went dark today.

I knew there was no way the Ticket would be off FM for long. Didn't think it would be this soon, however.

Another interesting sideline to the Cumulus musical chairs: Heard ESPN playoff baseball on 570. Would've been on 103.3, probably got bumped by preseason Mavs. So I suppose 570 will serve the same function as 660 as an alternate.

Just heard a top-of-the-hour tease on BAP. The FM simulcast moves to 99.5 HD-2 on Oct. 21st. So evidently The Ticket will move to 96.7 at that time. (I mean the FM simulcast will move there; 1310 will remain.)

But I thought moving conservative talk to FM would be a huge ratings success..

It is interesting that the 96.7 simulcast didn't help WBAP.
To me that means one of two things:
1. 96.7 is a bad signal to do a simulcast on
2. WBAP's listeners don't need a simulcast and will always look for the station at 820

My vote is #2

Or the WBAP demographics are so old that they are content with Ancient Modulation and don't like that newfangled FM stuff.

I agree with you on #2. It's talk. It doesn't need to sound "better" on FM.

You've got to think that they will be players in getting one (or more?) of the 3 majors sport franchises to come on board. Can't say I'm that big of a fan if that were to happen, as it would cut into The Hardline, more than likely.

How is the 96.7 signal as compared to 104.1? Non-radio guy here.

Many orders of magnitude. 96.7 completely encompasses 104.1 and is multiple times larger. There is really no place that 104.1 is better than 96.7.

It's especially better in Tarrant and Dallas counties, but is also better in Collin and most (all?) of Denton.

That or Crawford did not want to air the baseball game on 770am

96.7 will help some in Dallas county, particularly toward toward the east (Garland-Rockwall-Mesquite) where 1310's night signal has "issues" and that's being polite. We're at the time of year where a good chuck of 1310's drive times are stuck on the night pattern. But don't expect improved building penetration in Dallas offices and when FM skip season happens expect a better signal in OKC than Pleasant Grove.

Someone mentioned ESPN and 570. ESPN still owns the 103.3 frequency. All Cumulus Dallas is doing is baby sitting the channel for them. Those baseball playoff games are on 570 because ESPN needs the clearance.

Don Junior has never liked sports on 770. Which is surprising because from what he was charging for air time that would have been found money for him. I noticed that 770's Friday HS football client moved to 95.3.

I'm not sure 96.7 is going to be to be all that helpful in Rowlett, Garland and Mesquite. It will be okay for fringe in-car listening, but not much else. These areas get a sub-60 dBu signal. Most are 55 and below.
