96.9 The Beat Domain name registrations...

very interesting news, a "star 93.7" formatted station woul dbe great, but as has been noted a few variations have been registered so we're all left guessing!!!!

Given Greater Media's cluster's focus on adults, I'd bet it's an adult format. Again, something 80s-based leaning female would fit fine between 90s-centered WBOS and 70s-centered WROR and could protect sister WMJX.... Now your salespeople have a full adult male and female package to offer their clients, from ages 30-65. Let CBS and Clear Channel fight for the kiddies.

96.9 has a stronger signal than 101.7.

Oops in post above I typed simpler..meant similar (signal range). WTKK has local hosts wkdays 6a to noon then 3 to 7 pm. Rest syndie..local hosts cost most money. Jockless would save lots of money for them, sad as that is for needy talent, and they go after a good demo.

I would love to see Michael Graham spinning Black grooves in drive time. ;D

In a market notorious for its disdain for black popular music? Not a chance.

Ummm, Jamn plays some "black popular music" all the time and they seem to be doing fine.

>>Keep your ears tuned for some big changes at WTKK-FM (96.9). WTKK NewsTalk owner Greater Media could soon be switching back to all-music because, experts said, “toxic” all-talk formats aren’t attracting enough younger listeners.

Quotes from Donna Halper and Michael Harrison...station claims no decision has been made.

One interesting comment someone made though it's doubtful:

><If I were Greater Media, I'd cash out by selling 96.9 FM to Entercom so Howie Carr and the rest of the'RKO lineup can finally be heard on FM.

Watch the first song of a new music format on 96.9 be Britney Spears' "Toxic". :p

Herald Second Page Article

Check out the p.2 article in the Herald on WTKK's potential change to music. Speculation is RhythmicCHR. Perhaps this is the time for RKO to pour it on. Talk to a younger audience. Get a nickname. Take over 107.3 as well.

AM is 100% off the radar for anyone under 30, and whatever cash cows WRKO can count on (primarily Limbaugh and Carr) don't resonate with the younger crowd. And with 107.3 having the active-rock format all to itself, that's not gonna happen either.

Re: Herald Second Page Article

Well Grace the TKK PD contract is up next month so if it is not renewed it could tell us something

Wasn't sure if Grace Blazer was still the PD or not, but she prob made decision to carry syndie
Michael Smerconish--whom she'd hired at WPHT 1210 the Big Talker in Phil.

>>AM is 100% off the radar for anyone under 30,
Seems that way other than maybe Radio Disney at 1260. I'd think most RD stations are on AM
but who knows. It was on 540 in Pitt. but I think they moved further down the dial when they
put Fox Sports on 540 (OK, looks like RD Pitt. is on 1250)

>>Talk to a younger audience
Some talk hosts and stations will use hard rockin' intros (like Michael Savage) and RKO is using
the AAF voice guy for liners...the focus of talk might try to go younger but the audience and
hosts are on the old side for the most part. I will say Kuhner was born in '69....Howie? Born in '52.
El Rushbo, born in '50 I believe.. Weekend and fill in Avi Nelson was on the old WEEI in the 70s IIRC, don't know his exact age. "Ancient Modulation"

tweet from @bostonradio

>GM's Boston market manager was market manager for CC's NYC cluster few years ago_Oversaw Z100 and dance KTU 103.5. @sportsfan985 @WMWMBlues

(so who knows, rhythmic?)

more tweets:

@bostonradio: Just waiting to see how post-election month(Nov 8 - Dec 5) numbers shake out b4 applying the big hammer to 96.9?
@radioinsight: The fact there was very little pre-election boost is that hammer. Wheel was already in motion domains were just 1st public step
@bostonradio: At least Severin kept them above water for a while. Once he got shed, their core demo jumped ship

They're covering at red-furred-mammal25, too

http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/20...l-wtkk-change-its-format#.UMcnB5bTEwM.twitter

If you see that listen to the reporter:
"Jim Broad" (Braude is pronounced "BROW-dee")
"WKRO"

(ha, I think someone was in for an interview at RKO, maybe Lamar Alexander and he said the
calls wrong, too, as WKRO...)

ha!
When it looked like they might get Howie they actually had a HowieCarr969.com domain name I think...(and Howie wound up giving away the chocolate "Carr Bars" that were designed to
promote the new talk host 96.9 was going to put in mornings around Oct of 2007...)

AUGUST 2007:
http://bostonherald.com/news/region...Carr__7M_man:_Ratings_bonuses_would_boost_pay

(I think with bonuses and such the Herald alleged he could have earned $7M from 2007-
2012 at WTKK--performance bonuses would be key to that though)
>>As WTKK’s new morning-drive man, Carr would earn a base salary of $450,000 the first year; $500,000 the second year; $550,000 the third year; $600,000 the fourth year; and $650,000 the fifth year, according to WTKK’s offer of employment.

But do they even listen to the radio at all? From what I can tell they're on the damn phone every waking hour.
