96.9 The Beat Domain name registrations...

NECN has an arrangement with 96.9, maybe some kind of exclusivity there but hey, interesting.
Not sure if comedy is making CC money (cons talk 1.4, comedy 0.6) but since they chopped off
salary there they prob aren't losing money.

Some stations may be running comedy just for now...Cumulus' "Funny 102.5" in KC is about to switch to CBS Sports...which is doing radio in partnership with Cumulus. (Fox Sports is dist by CC,
NBC Sports is in assoc w Dial Global etc).

>>96.9 needs a live and local morning show talking about local issues
Eagan and Braude, but they had NECN on for Graham yesterday. I think the contracts for
Jim, Margery, and Michael all expire in 2013 and that could be an indication of changes
ahead. It could stay talk, or GM may opt for news/NECN simulcast or music (more likely).

i don't know how or why eagen even got a gig she has a disgusting

lisp which makes me change the ch immediately!!

Ready for more? Note "Mike" and all the various "B" combinations (B96.9, maybe B short for Beat)
More names, registered on Thu.

969MikeFM could well be a ruse to throw people off but could they use it? Does Entercom had the Mike name trademarked? I recall a situation maybe with WSNE where they wanted to use Star
but had to settle for coast due to trademark or registered-mark or something.

(I would think a sports format highly unlikely what with four full time sports stations in town, as the two WEEIs have separate formats, then 98.5 and 1510. Maybe a 1200 could drop Fox Sports on 1200, though staying comedy is more likely, but what would GM do with sports on 96.9? No networks other than maybe Fox Sports if CC wants to have them carry it--maybe some local
hosts, but way too much competition. No major sports teams to carry. Highly unlikely --how much
of the pool of sports fans could such a station reach?)

Doug Meehan just announced that his last show on 96.9 is today. He said he is returning to TV, but won't say where and when.

This just begs the question: When will 96.9 make an official announcement about a format change?

interesting--I would think any format change might not be till after the New Year but who knows,
maybe just after Christmas? Stunting?

On Meehan's facebook someone said he's leaving radio and going back to TV (but where?) but I don't know if that is part of the format change, if so, or not. There was a "big announcement coming at 9:50 am..."

>>Oh, nevermind. You're going back to TV and leaving the radio today. OK then. Congrats!
>>what new show will you be on? and when? I missed announcement .
>>Today is his last show on WTKK

Meehan on his FB: "This morning will be my final day at WTKK. I have an opportunity to return to television. Can't share exactly where or when but will do so as soon as possible.
One of the hardest parts of moving on is leaving behind the friendships that have developed. Not only at WTKK and Greater Media Boston but with the listening audience as well. Everyday that I stepped up to the mic it was extremely clear to me the awesome responsibility I had been handed. "

(Could just be him grabbing that job offer--who replaces him at 96.9, or will it just be whatever
patched in until that possible format change?) The various hosts like E&B and Graham (who has been filling in for ailing VB at Fox25) will prob be doing their "final shows of the year" in advance of vacation but it could be a permanent end for their shows, if the change does indeed happen.

But who knows, maybe someone out there is just having fun registering several dozen domain names... :)

Meehan saying farewell now
Meehan: G Media allowed him to pursue TV opportunity, will announce new job on twitter, facebook, thanks boss, listeners

You are presuming that only blacks like to hear sophisticated, Urban-flavored acts like Alicia Keys and gold like Marvin Gaye, Al Green, etc.

I'm white (Jewish actually..), and most of what I listen to are black artists (Motown, Philly Soul, Disco, etc). A updated Jammin Oldies format could work if it was mass appeal enough and played the crossover hits from '65-'89. Songs that are not heard on WROR or WMXJ (let's face it - WROR may do Motown Mondays, but is still white as a Klan rally most hours)

Something akin to http://www.jamminoldiesradio.com would be a big hit in Boston, especially with women.

Yes and as I noted one evening hour of WROR was about 95 per cent 70s, some 80s, no 60s--
and mostly white, rock artists. Not even the likes of Donna Summer, Tavares (no Heaven Must Be
Missing An Angel)
I think someone mentioned Motown Mondays may be gone from ROR; can't remember

I just looked up the last 105 songs on WROR. Aside from the Ronettes and Drifters Christmas songs, the only black artist I noticed was Dobie Gray. And that's not really a stretch...

Wouldn't it be nice if Boston has a station that played "black" music, for black listeners? I mean really, is R&B only redeemable if the almighty Caucasian woman tunes in? Must it be watered down?

Besides, in NY, the former Kiss-FM and WBLS always attracted different races, even when the primary programming focus was Black listeners.

Have you taken a look at the demographic breakdown of the Boston metro?

http://regionalindicators.org/equity/demographics/race-ethnicity/

A station that's doing well is getting 5% of the entire pie. A Black-targeted station in Boston only has about 8% of the population to start with. Now take that 8% and chop it up with the same age differences that also exist in the entire pie. How many 25-54's are there in that small percentage that also enjoy R&B?

WBLS works in NYC because of the large black population, which is 3,362,616, about a million less than the TOTAL population of Boston.

Your proposed format going to last long, except as an LPFM or some basement frequency AM in Boston.

No, I remember Loren and Wally mentioning Motown Mondays yesterday (Monday) morning so it's still going on. Now whether Motown Monday extends throughout the day or just on their show, I have no idea. I would think all day. There is nothing mentioned about it on WROR.com that I can find.

Looking at the playlist on WROR's website, the only motown songs they played yesterday were Christmas songs, and there were not all that many...
