98.9 being shopped around

It is an option for Saga but most likely you'll see a smaller independent group with it. Thank God it won't be Wilks. I've heard from a few sources that Wilks is seeking bank loans though.

Could we see NABCO go for it?

Does Nabco have the money for it, they have not been doing well in the ratings for a while on any of the signals, so the billing can't be that great.

How about CD989?

That thought had entered my mind, but would that be enough of an upgrade over 102.5 to make the move worth it?  I know that means the CD people would then have an actual license rather than an LMA, but if they're unable to (or don't want to) buy 102.5 from the Zanesvillites, how would they manage to buy 98.9 from R1?

With our luck somebody is going to buy it and put Country or Gospel on it.

No doubt.   ::)

Since Saga was never able to get any of their rimshots closer to Columbus they would probably try for 98.9. Since hot ac is doing good in other cities a downtown signal for Mix would be good for them. Saga seems to do pretty good with their stations whether or not they are on a rimshot.

Everytime I see that callsign WJKR I think 'The Joker' as in '98.9 the Joker' Joker's Wild, we play anything. Now it seems it's Joker's Wild as to the future of the station.

The whole cluster is up for sale from what I heard. Rumor has it that Emmis wants to get into Ohio, maybe this is a good cluster for them?

Emmis does seem to do best in similar-sized markets like Indianapolis and Austin. They've had such huge success with Bob-FM in Austin I wonder if they could get Jack pumped up. Of course they'd be stuck with Class A's here. I'd love to see Emmis in Columbus, but I'll be very surprised if it happens.

Emmis has some powerhouse stations as well with Hot 97 in NYC and Power 106 in LA. I definitely wouldn't be upset with Emmis buying up that whole cluster.

Didn't want to start a new topic for this, but has anyone noticed that Jack-FM has broadened its music mix a lot lately? They still play classic rock, but more often than not it is a much smaller part of the mix. There's now plenty of CHR/Hot AC gold and even some currents like Adele. More rhythmic music than before. Even a bit of AAA and oldies-type classic hits. They're playing a lot more of what you used to hear on Gen-X. I don't know if this shift will help their numbers, but to me it's an even more appealing mix than what they were doing before.

Yesterday I heard a cold segue from Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" to Red Ryder's "Lunatic Fringe" and was taken aback at what a pleasing, seamless transition that makes.

I'll have to take some time to check it out. I can enjoy Sam in Logan since it has a wider playlist but Jack to me seemed to lean to much classic rock. It might be an improvement we'll see.

That 4.5 million figure must have been a post recession figure. With the Columbus Economy doing a little better, my guess is $5.0-$6.0 million.

What about the rest of the Columbus Radio-One stations? Are they also going to be sold soon?

Salem takes over Nov 1st. Radio One was asking 4.5 million, I wonder what it finally sold for.

Interesting.... If this is true.. I bet we see '98.9 FM Talk' .. I don't see Salem doing CCM here with The River in town. Salem has wanted a place to park it's conserve talk stuff and WRFD was never a big option with it's daytime only signal and already making $$$ with it's brokered programming.

I also bet it will be FMtalk98.9 as those where the plans Salem had for CD1025 on 102.5 last
year at this time.

Here is The Other Paper article from last year:

CD101 'not going anywhere'

Malloy said that he had no contact with the Christian-talk radio station that purchased the Internet domain names that encroached on CD101's frequency, FMtalk1025.com and 1025thefish.com. What he saw online (which included a logo and call letters overlaid on Columbus' skyline) and on message boards was exactly what the public saw. The content on those sites has since been deleted.

Here is the link to the old Talk 102.5 FM website:
