a couple of random thoughts

I actually did hear a National Guard (Air Force NG?) PSA that sounded "new" to me on RKO

Unless things have changed, the Mass National Guard psas have an interesting background.

The media work is handled by the Mass Broadcasters Association. The MBA has the contract with the National Guard and handles them like a commerial account and is paid out of the NG ad budget. The member stations of the MBA run the spots treating them like PSAs and the MBA retains the NG money as part of their operating budget. I assume this keeps the membership dues low.

Regards,
TSB

the most tired, old and annoying ad jingle has to be 1-800-M-A-T-T-R-E-S-S. It makes me kick puppies. BTW that was sort of a pain to type out on my iPhone :(

The Kars for Kids ads are among the most annoying I've ever heard in any market..they run on the Red Sox Network as well, usually in the post game..

What's interesting to me is watching the commercial blocks on NESN during Red Sox games this summer, and seeing the sort of advertisers that are on..including the Cash for Gold folks..

Bob's Discount Furniture ads have me going for the button as soon as I hear his irritating voice. Since day one all he has done is call everyone else in the furniture business crooks. He seems to be doing OK, but I wouldn't go to one of his stores if they were giving stuff away. Remember when his mantra was that there was no such thing as free delivery or financing, ("I doubt it") everything was built into the price. Now he talks about his free ice cream, cookies, and coffee. I guess when he gives stuff away it's a different story.

His strategy for the tax free weekend was to say that everyone else marked their prices up and you weren't really saving any money. When Building #19 ran an ad for their famous "Jerk-o-pedic" matress and showed a caricature of a scrawny little creep with a beard next to it, I laughed for the rest of the day.

I was never in the furniture business. I've never even been in one of his stores. I have no ax to grind. I just can't stand his commercials.

I only like his ads when the blond, Cathy Poulin, is on. She's a hottie.

Yeah, I HATE that commercial. Another one I can't stand is the "what wildfire likes to eat" commercial, it gets annoying.

BTW, after a quick search on Google look what I found out about this "innocent" little company:

http://cbs2chicago.com/investigations/Kars.4.Kids.2.331585.html

And in the current advertising depression, radio stations are going to continue to accept and air any advertising from any legal or quasi-legal business, right up until the minute the Feds bolt the doors shut. It's called survival.

Is she his wife or an actress?

she is neither, she is the P.R. director for the company. Bob himself has never owned more than 1/3 of the company, and owns even less than that amount now.

That's right, she's based at their corporate in Conn. They didn't want to spend the money on hiring professional actors so Bob the cheap bastard that he is hired her.

Bob did not hire her The owners did. Bob is only the front man for the company I know him and he is cheap
Why is he the front man? He has a really irritating voice and that forced smile of his is sickening. He's like the Jon Meterparel of commercials.
