You would not believe what song was just played for the first time over on the Lumberyard. Proves to me that whoever runs the music over at KAZG either has to be a contributor to this board or at least reads this thread.

When you hear "Leaning on the Lamp Post" by Herman's Hermits, you'll know for sure that there has been a fez-inspired infiltration of the inner sanctum of the Lumberyard.

If nothing else, Lumberyard 1440 is consistent--with a carrier dump on the first day
of the new month at 5:19:37 PM (LST*).

January specs are 7:30 AM-5:45 PM, so I suppose it'll be tomorrow or the next day
before Gumpdusky fixes it, as usual. But...will they also adjust the lamptimer to
something closer to real time than 4+ minutes off?

*: LST = Lamptimer Standard Time

January 7-Dumped carrier at 5:46p. I was diggin' the instrumental they were playing on the vintage Hammarlund HQ-140-X. They actually sound pretty good on a tube radio with a wide front-end.

Thanks for the dump time update. I checked at 5:49 (figuring the lamptimer had by now
drifted over five minutes late) but it was static city. You didn't hear a legal ID, did you? ;D

Lumberyard 1440 also sounds pretty good on a Sony SRF-A100 in wideband mode. I'm sure
it passes at least up to 8 kHz, maybe 10. Nothing special on the low end unless you plug it
into your sound system as it has tweeter-type speakers.

This just in: the Goldmine played KOOL's all-time favorite oldie*, went dead air with carrier
for a couple of minutes, then played a legal ID (at 10:53 AM) and back into music.

In short, though, the answer is no. Weekday mornings from 7:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. is a sports and entertainment show called, "The Positive Side." It is hosted by Roy Garibaldi. Can't stand the show myself. Then, weekday afternoons from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., is Culinary Confessions with Kim and Don. There was also an evening show called "The Bandwagon" that aired weekday evenings from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., but, luckily, that show disappeared over a year ago now.

In essence, that leaves Goldmine oldies all afternoon long from 1:00 P.M. to whenever the lamptimer decides to kick-in, which this month is around 5:45 P.M. Weekends are even better because then we have all oldies, all day long.

Hopefully that helps clarify KAZG's strange programming schedule!

So it seems to be pretty official now: the Lumberyard is no longer broadcasting commercials whenever their playing our favorite Goldmine Rock and Roll oldies. That means that all weekend long, you can hear the Goldmine playing those oldies from sunrise to sunset without a single commercial! On weekdays, it means no commercials from 1:00 P.M. to local sunset, which for January is 5:45 P.M.*

So what's the ploy here? Have advertisers officially given up on the oldies format or is Sandusky really that nice? At this rate, Sandusky could claim the Lumberyard as being a non-profit enterprise and start getting some tax exemptions! ;D




* Limited time offer, restrictions apply, including when the DOS computer needs a manual reboot or the carrier mysteriously dumps the signal mid-song!

February 1 sign-on 6:05:02 AM with 52 watts PSRA power (sorry, catfish with a "c")
and no legal ID to be heard anywhere; power up to 5 kw at 7:35:03 AM; sign-off, or
more properly carrier dump (again no legal ID), at 5:50:07 PM.

I'm sure Gumpdusky will play its usual "day late catch up" to the February monthly
times (7:15 AM-6:15 PM) by tomorrow. Maybe they'll also adjust the lamptimer to
something closer than 5+ minutes late, but I won't hold my breath.

Hey, Lumberyard 1440 now has a website, and I think a Facebook page too! But
do they tweet?

This could have potentially been two things. First, and foremost is Funny 1440, KFNY, from Riverside, CA. They air comedic sketches from various comedians and can sometimes include singing bits featuring music, ala Adam Sandler. KFNY can come in pretty good at times here in Phoenix, especially around sunrise and sunset. That is the most likely station you were hearing. Of course, it could have been another station: Radio Zvezda, from St. Petersburg, Russia. I had a chance to listen to this station whilst visiting Russia and it was actually pretty good! But, it's not very likely that you were able to DX catch this far-away Russian rock station here in the desert. After all, Saint Petersburg is 5,636 miles, or 9,071 kilometers, away!

Just heard a new bumper during the music marathon on the Lumberyard promoting their new website. Was pretty simple, just asked listeners that if they wanted to find out more about the Goldmine to go to http://www.kazg1440.com. The Lumberyard has finally caught up to the 21st century! ;D
